The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Brentwood: Hutton Central ward, after the death of Conservative councillor John Kerslake. His term had been extended to end in May so no byelection will follow.
  • Brighton and Hove: Patcham ward, after the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Lee Wares. Term ends 2023.
  • Maidstone: Detling and Thurnham ward, after the impending resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Nick de Wiggondene-Sheppard, who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends 2023.
  • Midlothian: Midlothian East ward, after the impending resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Kenneth Baird. Term ends 2022.
  • Reigate and Banstead: Hooley, Merstham and Netherne ward, after the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Keith Foreman. Term ends 2022.
  • Reigate and Banstead: Horley East and Salfords ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Derek Allcard. Term ends 2022.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. Regulations in Wales require outstanding byelections to be held in a period between 1 March and 6 May 2021.
  • Conwy: The byelection due in Eirias division will be held on 18 March.
  • Perth and Kinross: The byelection due in Almond and Earn ward will be held on 25 March.
  • Wrexham: The byelection due in Maesydre division will be held on 18 March.
