Lewes: Sean MacLeod, who was elected for the Green Party in Ouse Valley and Ringmer ward but left the party in March, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
Spelthorne: Six councillors elected for the Conservative Party, including the leader and deputy leader of the council and four other cabinet members, have left the party to set up the United Spelthorne Group. Their move leaves the council with no overall majority. Defectors are council leader Ian Harvey and his wife Helen (Sunbury East ward), deputy leader Olivia Rybinski (Ashford Town ward), cabinet members Amar Brar and Joanne Sexton (Ashford North and Stanwell South ward), and Richard Smith-Ainsley (Laleham and Shepperton Green ward).

Guildford: Send ward, after the death of Guildford Greenbelt Group councillor Patrick Sheard. Term ends 2023.
Ipswich: Castle Hill ward, after the resignation of Conservative Party councillor Robin Vickery. Term ends 2022.
North Somerset: Portishead East ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Paul Gardner. Term ends 2023.
Suffolk: Carlford division, after the resignation of Conservative Party councillor Robin Vickery. No byelection may be held as his term would have ended in 2021.
Dates for byelections
In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
