Labour needs a Councillor Owner’s manual

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

Caerphilly: The byelection in Penmaen ward held on 31 August was won by Elizabeth Davies. Labour hold.
Derbyshire: The byelection in Swadlincote South division held on 31 August was won by Alan Haynes. Labour gain from Conservative.
Kirklees: The byelection in Batley East ward held on 31 August was won by Ebrahim Dockrat. Labour hold.

Caerphilly: Jon Scriven, who was elected for Plaid Cymru in Penyrheol ward, but was suspended from the party last August, has now returned.
Leicester: Diane Cank, who was elected for the Labour Party in Troon ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor, in protest at the suspension of Leicester East Constituency Labour Party.

Argyll and Bute: South Kintyre ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Donald Kelly. Term ends 2027.
Lincolnshire: Grantham North division, after the death of Conservative councillor Ray Wootten. Term ends 2025.
South Kesteven: Grantham St Wulfram’s ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Ray Wootten. Term ends 2027.
Surrey: Horsleys division, after the resignation of Residents for Guildford and Villages county councillor Colin Cross in protest at the county council’s agreement over a controversial local development. Term ends 2025.

Argyll and Bute: The byelection due in South Kintyre ward will be held on 2 November.
Cheltenham: The byelection due in Prestbury ward will be held on 12 October.
Lambeth: The byelection due in Vauxhall ward will be held on 5 October.

Hackney: The Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, has been suspended from holding office in the party after publication of a picture showing him with former councillor Tom Dewey after Dewey’s arrest. The form of suspension is under Chapter 6 of the Labour Party Rule Book and does not always involve suspending the party whip.
