The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Bracknell Forest: The byelection in Old Bracknell ward held on 9 December was won by Paul Bidwell. Labour gain from Conservative (the previous councillor having been sitting as an Independent Conservative).
  • Rotherham: The byelection in Anston and Woodsetts ward held on 9 December was won by Drew Tarmey. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Rotherham: The byelection in Aughton and Swallownest ward held on 9 December was won by Robert Taylor. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Tonbridge and Malling: The byelection in Castle ward held on 9 December was won by Anna Cope. Green Party gain from Conservative.
  • Tonbridge and Malling: The byelection in Castle ward held on 9 December was won by Dan Harman. Conservative hold.
  • Tonbridge and Malling: The byelection in West Malling and Leybourne ward held on 9 December was won by Paul Boxhall. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Torridge: The byelection in Northam ward held on 9 December was won by Carrie Woodhouse. Conservative gain from Independent.

New vacancies

  • Barking and Dagenham: Alibon ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor and former Mayor Sanchia Alasia. Her term was due to end in May so she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Castle Point: St Peter’s ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Bill Dick. Term ends 2023. As a result the Conservatives have lost their overall majority on the council.
  • Hertfordshire: Hitchin South division, after the death of Liberal Democrat county councillor Paul Clark. Term ends 2025.
  • High Peak: Cote Heath ward, after the death of Labour councillor Keith Savage. Term ends 2023. As a result Labour no longer has an overall majority on the council.
  • Lichfield: Armitage with Handsacre ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nick Binney. Term ends 2023.
  • North East Lincolnshire: Park ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Debbie Woodward. Term ends 2023.
  • North Hertfordshire: Hitchin Highbury ward, after the death of the council’s deputy leader, Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Clark. Term ends 2024.
  • Somerset: Chard North division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat county councillor Amanda Broom. No byelection will be held as her term was due to end next May.
  • Somerset West and Taunton: Alcombe ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Paul Bolton who did not attend any meetings of the council for six months. Term ends 2023.
  • Tamworth: Spital ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Brindley. Term ends 2023.
  • Telford and Wrekin: Dawley and Aqueduct ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Concepta Cassar. Term ends 2023.
  • Walsall: Willenhall South ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor, former council leader and ex-Mayor Sean Coughlan following his arrest. Term ends 2024.
  • West Devon: Tavistock North ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Steve Hipsey. Term ends 2023.
  • Winchester: St Michael ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Lynda Murphy. As her term was due to end in May, no byelection will be held.

Dates for byelections

  • Charnwood: The byelection for two seats due in Louchborough Shelthorpe ward will be held on 20 January.
  • East Lindsey: The byelection due in Chapel St Leonards ward will be held on 20 January.
  • Lichfield: The byelection due in Armitage with Handsacre ward will be held on 16 December.
  • Telford and Wrekin: The byelection due in Dawley and Aqueduct ward will be held on 16 December.
