The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • None this week.

Changes of allegiance

  • Arun: Emily Seex, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in River ward, has left the party to sit as an ‘Independent Independent’. It is also noted that Sandra Daniells (Pevensey ward) has joined this group, having previously been in the Independent Group.
  • Ryedale: Tracie Middleton, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Wolds ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent ungrouped councillor.
  • Spelthorne: Nichola Cornes, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Staines South ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • Amber Valley: Heage and Ambergate ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Angela Ward. No byelection will be held as her term was extended to May next year.
  • Torfaen: New Inn division, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Raymond Mills. Term ends 2022.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.

Other updates

  • Newham: On 6 May next year, alongside the election for the Mayor of London, there will be a referendum in Newham on whether to continue with the directly-elected Mayor, or to switch to a committee system of decision-making.
