The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Change of allegiance
- Cheshire West and Chester: Phil Herbert, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Hartford and Greenbank ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
New vacancies
- East Riding of Yorkshire: South West Holderness ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Mike Bryan. Term ends 2023.
- Fenland: Lattersey ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Alan Bristow. Term ends 2023.
- Orkney Islands: North Isles ward, after the death of Independent councillor Dr Kevin Woodbridge. Term ends 2022.
- Wakefield: Normanton ward, after the death of Labour councillor Alan Wassell. His term was extended to 2021 so no byelection will be held.
- Wellingborough: Irchester ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Thomas Lloyd. His term was due to end when the authority is abolished next year so no byelection will be held.
Dates for byelections
- In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections.
