The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Result
- Aberdeen: The byelection in Kincorth/Nigg/Cove ward held on 5 November was won by Miranda Radley. Scottish National Party hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Copeland: Two councillors reported to be under investigation for Facebook postings have left the Labour Party. They are Graham Calvin (Moor Row and Bigrigg ward) and Tom Higgins (Egremont ward).
- Maldon: A new Democratic Alliance Group has been set up by four of the former Conservative councillors who left the party and had previously been sitting as non-aligned. They are Robert Boyce (Althorne ward), Richard Dewick (Tillingham ward), Adrian Fluker (Southminster ward), and Michael Helm (Mayland ward).
- Norfolk: John Timewell, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in North Walsham West and Erpingham ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor.
New vacancy
- Liverpool: Warbreck ward, after the death of Labour councillor Richard McLinden. No byelection will be held as his term was extended to May next year.
Dates for byelections
- In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
Other updates
- Maldon: A new council leadership has taken over from the Conservatives at a delayed annnual meeting. After many Conservative councillors left the party, the council will now be led by Independent councillors.
