The Conservatives withstood a Liberal Democrat charge to retain their seat at Waterloo ward, Havant borough council, in a byelection last night. The other two byelections which polled also resulted in no change: Labour retained its seat in Melton Egerton ward, Melton borough council, and the Conservatives kept hold of Newbarns ward on Barrow-in-Furness borough council.

There was due to have been a byelection in Broughton Astley – Broughton ward of Harborough borough council, but only one candidate was nominated and Chris Golden (Conservative) was returned unopposed.
