There were in fact four byelections on Thursday 29 March. In the most interesting of them, Labour held off a Plaid Cymru challenge to win in Treorchy ward of Rhondda Cynon Taff, the ‘supercouncil’ in the South Wales valleys. An independent candidate also won in St David within ward of Powys county council.

Meanwhile there were two Conservative holds in safe seats: in Stoke Poges and Farnham Common division of Buckinghamshire county council, and in Rooksdown ward of Basingstoke and Deane borough council.

Apologies for missing the byelection in St Cattwg ward of Caerphilly county borough council on 15 March, when Labour gained a seat from an Independent.
