An ever-confused situation in Burnley borough has led to the two byelections this week resulting in one Liberal Democrat gain from Labour, and one Labour gain from Liberal Democrat. The seat which Labour councillor Donald Hall held in Brunshaw until his death now goes to Liberal Democrat Allen Harris, while the seat won by Liberal Democrat Mozaquir Ali due to electoral fraud in Daneshouse and Stoneyholme now goes to Labour’s Shah Monwar Hussein.

In other results, Penyffordd in Flintshire County Council has elected Independent candidate David Williams to replace Labour’s Derek Darlington, the former Leader of the council. In Warboys and Bury ward of Huntingdonshire district council, Liberal Democrat Jack Taylor was replaced by his party colleague Peter Ward.
