Lib Dems now control Rochdale

The resignation of Labour councillor Terry Smith has put the Liberal Democrats into overall control in Rochdale, where they had been running a minority administration since May (before that, there had been an unusual Labour/Conservative coalition for one year). There will be no byelection because of the ‘six month rule’. Meanwhile, in Caradon, an Independent (formerly Conservative) councillor has joined the Liberal Democrat group.
