The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:
East of England
- Epping Forest district council: Vacancy in Loughton Forest ward after the death of Loughton Residents’ Association councillor Colin Finn. Term ends May next year.
- Fenland district council: Michelle Tanfield was elected councillor for Elm and Christchurch ward on 19 December, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Forest Heath district council: John Bloodworth, the Conservative Party candidate, was elected councillor for Market ward on 19 December. He held his party’s seat by three votes over the UK Independence Party candidate in a straight fight.
- St Edmundsbury borough council: Byelection on 9 January 2014 in Haverhill East ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Les Ager. Term ends 2015.
- Southend on Sea council: Byelection on 23 January 2014 in West Leigh ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gwen Horrigan due to ill health. Term ends 2015. The Conservatives would lose their overall majority if they do not retain the seat.
- Tendring district council: There are two vacancies. Peter Bruff ward has a vacancy after the death of Conservative councillor Mitch Mitchell. St Johns ward has a vacancy after the sudden resignation of the Leader of the council, Conservative councillor Peter Halliday, who has fallen out with colleagues and with the local Member of Parliament. Both terms end in 2015.
- Amber Valley borough council: Byelection on 30 January 2014 in Heanor East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Phil Hill. There is also a vacancy in Heanor West ward after the death of Labour councillor Bob Janes. Both terms end in 2016.
- Charnwood borough council: Vacancy in Birstall Wanlip ward after the death of Conservative councillor Stuart Jones. Term ends 2015.
- Lincolnshire county council: Lesley Rollings was elected county councillor for Scotter Rural division on 19 December. She gains for the Liberal Democrats a seat previously held by the Conservatives.
- Wellingborough borough council: Bhupendra Patel, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Hemmingwell ward, has resigned the Conservative whip and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- West Lindsey district council: Chris Day was elected councillor for Scotter ward on 19 December. He is a member of no political party, and takes a seat previously held by the Conservative Party. There is a vacancy in the same ward after the death of Conservative councillor William Parry. Term ends 2015.
- Bexley borough council: Vacancy in Sidcup ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jackie Evans, due to ill health. No byelection will be held to replace her.
- Brent borough council: Vacancy in Dudden Hill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues, who has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011.
- Corporation of London: There are two vacancies on the non-partisan Common Council. Castle Baynard ward has a vacancy after the resignation of Ray Catt, and Portsoken ward has a vacancy after the resignation of Shadique Gani. Both terms end in 2017.
- Waltham Forest borough council: Vacancy in Higham Hill ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Geoff Hammond. As the vacancy occurred within six months of the end of the term, no byelection will be held.

- Blackpool council: Vacancy in Hawes Side ward after the death of former Mayor and Labour councillor Norman Hardy. Term ends 2015.
- Bolton borough council: Asha Ali was elected councillor for Harper Green ward on 19 December; she holds the seat for the Labour Party.
- Cumbria county council: Vacancy in Carlisle Belle Vue division after the death of veteran Labour councillor Ian Stockdale. Term ends 2017.
- Fylde borough council: Vacancy in St John’s ward after the death of the Deputy Mayor, Kath Harper, who was elected as an Independent candidate sponsored by the Ratepayers’ Association. Term ends 2015.
- Salford city council: Byelection on Tuesday 7 January 2014 in Swinton South ward after the death of Labour councillor Norbert Potter. Term ends 2015.
- Trafford borough council: Byelection on 16 January 2014 in Broadheath ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Ken Weston. Term ends 2015.
- Mid Sussex district council: Rod Clarke was elected councillor for Haywards Heath Franklands ward on 19 December, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Tonbridge and Malling district council: Byelection on 9 January 2014 in Borough Green and Long Mill ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Evans. Term ends 2015.
- West Sussex county council: Stephen Hiller was elected county councillor for Haywards Heath East division on 19 December. He held the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Worthing borough council: Trevor England, who was elected in Castle ward for the Liberal Democrats, has joined the UK Independence Party (after a brief dalliance with the Conservative Party).
- Torridge district council: Vacancy in Bideford East ward after the death of Independent councillor Steve Clarke. Term ends 2015.
- Wiltshire council: Vacancy in Ethandune division after the death of Conservative councillor Linda Conley, who was portfolio holder for waste. Term ends 2017.
- Lichfield district council: Byelection on 30 January in Chadsmead ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Michael Fryers, who failed to attend any meeting of the council in six months. Term ends 2015.
- Wolverhampton city council: Vacancy in Wednesfield North ward after the death of Conservative councillor Neil Clarke. Term ends May next year.
- Richmondshire district council: Vacancy in Reeth and Arkengathdale ward after the death of Independent councillor Bob Gale. Term ends 2015.
- Sheffield city council: Vacancy in Arbourthorne ward after the death of Labour councillor John Robson. Term ends 2015.
- Flintshire county council: Vacancy in Mostyn division after the disqualification of Independent councillor Patrick Heesom. The adjudication panel initially disqualified Heesom in July; the order was stayed by the High Court when Heesom appealed but the stay has since been lifted. Term ends 2017.
- Torfaen county borough council: Nigel Davies was elected councillor for Croesyceiliog North division on 19 December, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
- Highland council: Jennifer Barclay was elected as councillor for Black Isle ward on 19 December, succeeding her late husband. Like him she is politically Independent.
- Moray council: Byelection on 30 January 2014 in Buckie ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Anne McKay. Term ends 2017. The current Independent and Conservative administration would lose its overall majority if the new councillor does not support it.
- North Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 23 January 2014 in Motherwell North ward after the death of Labour councillor Annita McAuley. Term ends 2017.
