The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

East of England

London

North East

  • Redcar and Cleveland council: Byelection on 17 November for two seats in Zetland ward, after the resignations of Ron Harrison and Jim Rogers. Both sitting Liberal Democrat councillors for this ward have resigned over a legal dispute over whether they were disqualified from election in May as members of the teaching staff of Eston Park School; this is a foundation school which is funded through the local education authority and raises the question of disqualification under s. 80 (1) (a) of the Local Government Act 1972. Ron Harrison is seeking re-election as he is no longer working at the school. Both terms end in 2015.

North West

  • Lancashire county council: Viv Taylor was elected county councillor for Wyreside division on 27 October, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
  • Ribble Valley borough council: Byelection on 17 November in Salthill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor David Berryman. Term ends 2015.
  • Salford city council: Following a valid petition, the council will hold a referendum in January on whether to introduce a directly-elected Mayor.
  • South Lakeland district council: Vacancy in Ulverston North ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former council leader Colin Hodgson. Term ends May next year.
  • Warrington council: Byelection on 17 November in Poulton North ward after the sudden death of Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Oliver, who won the seat in a byelection on 28 July. Term ends May next year.

South East

  • Adur district council: Vacancy in Eastbrook ward following the disqualification of Liberal Democrat councillor Gavin Ayling, who failed to attend any meetings of the council in six months. The term ends May next year.
  • Ashford borough council: Byelection on 24 November in Beaver ward after the death of Labour councillor Brendan Naughton. Term ends 2015.
  • Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 17 November in West Wight division after the death of Independent councillor Stuart Dyer. Term ends 2013.
  • Wycombe district council: Byelection on 24 November in Hazlemere South ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bob Bate. Term ends 2015.

South West

  • Cornwall council: David Parsons was elected councillor for Bude North and Stratton division on 27 October, holding the seat for the Liberal Democrats. There is another byelection on 24 November in Wendron division after the death of Independent councillor Mike Clayton. Term ends 2013.
  • Forest of Dean district council: Vacancy in Cinderford West ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor of Cinderford Frank Beard. Term ends 2015.
  • Somerset county council: Byelection on 1 December in Brent division after the death of Conservative councillor Alan Ham. Term ends 2013.

West Midlands

  • Birmingham city council: Byelection on 10 November in Sparkbrook ward after the resignation of Respect councillor Salma Yaqoob due to ill health. Term ends 2014.
  • East Staffordshire borough council: Byelection on 3 November in Yoxall ward after the resignation of former Mayor and Conservative councillor David Brookes, who wishes to spend more time on his farm. Term ends 2015.
  • Newcastle under Lyme borough council: Elsie Bates, candidate of the Labour Party, was elected councillor for Newchapel ward on 27 October. She gained a seat previously held by the Conservatives. There is a vacancy in Madeley ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Bill Sinnott. Term ends 2015.
  • Tamworth borough council: Vacancy in Mercian ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Sam Munn. Term ends May next year. Gerry Pinner, who was elected for the Conservatives in Trinity ward, joined the Labour Party at the conclusion of his speech in the annual ‘State of the Borough’ debate; he had not been reselected for the 2012 election.
  • Walsall borough council: The Labour Party candidate, Julie Fitzpatrick, was elected councillor for Bloxwich East ward on 27 October. She gained a seat previously held by the Conservatives and joins her husband Shaun on the council, who gained his seat in the full council elections in May.

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Bradford city council: Byelection on 24 November in Great Horton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Rev Paul Flowers. Term ends May next year.
  • North Yorkshire county council: Janet Sanderson was elected county councillor for Thornton Dale and The Wolds division on 27 October, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
