The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

East of England

  • Essex county council: Byelection on 8 September in Stock division after the disqualification of Lord Hanningfield who was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment for false accounting. Originally elected as a Conservative, he was sitting as an Independent. Term ends 2013.
  • Fenland district council: Byelection on 22 September in Staithe ward after the death in a car accident of former Wisbech Mayor Roger Green, a Conservative councillor. Term ends 2015.
  • Great Yarmouth borough council: Vacancy in Bradwell South and Hopton ward after the death of Conservative councillor Mike Butcher. Term ends 2014.
  • Watford borough council: Byelection on 29 September in Nascot ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Andrew Forrest, who is taking up a new job in Ireland; the term ends in 2015. There will then be a byelection on 6 October in Vicarage ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tanveer Taj, who is to study for a Masters’ degree from September; the term ends in May next year.
  • Waveney borough council: Andrew Draper, who was elected as a Conservative in Worlingham ward, has left the Conservative group to sit as an Independent after his recent conviction. He will continue to support the Conservative administration which holds control by only one seat over Labour.

South East

  • Adur district council: Byelection on Tuesday 18 October in Cokeham ward after the death of Conservative councillor Norman Wright. Term ends May next year.
  • Cherwell district council: Byelection on 29 September in Bicester North ward after the death of Conservative councillor Carole Steward. Term ends 2015.
  • East Hampshire district council: Byelection on 15 September for two seats in Bramshott and Liphook ward, after the resignations of Conservative councillors Sam and Anna James. Both terms end 2015.
  • Hampshire county council: Byelection on 15 September in Headley division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sam James. Term ends 2013.
  • Mole Valley district council: Vacancy in Bookham South ward after the death of chairman of the council Anne Howarth, who was a Liberal Democrat councillor. Term ends in May next year.

South West

West Midlands

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • North Yorkshire county council: Impending vacancy in Thornton Dale and The Wolds division due to the resignation of Conservative councillor Ron Haigh, who is moving out of the county to help care for his wife. Term ends 2013.

Wales

  • Gwynedd county council: There are two byelections on 29 September. That in Diffwys and Maenofferen division follows the resignation of Llais Gwynedd councillor Richard Lloyd Jones. That in Penrhyndeudraeth division follows the resignation of Dewi Lewis of Plaid Cymru. Both terms end in May next year.
