The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

East of England

  • Norfolk county council: Byelection on 14 July in Old Catton division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stuart Dunn. Term ends 2013.

London

North East

  • No updates this week.

North West

South East

  • Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council: Byelection on 11 August in Eton and Castle ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Liam Maxwell, who has been appointed as an adviser to the Government on technology. Term ends 2015.
  • Wokingham council: Byelection on 21 July in Remenham, Wargrave and Ruscombe ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Claire Stretton, who has moved to Maidenhead and was elected as a councillor for Boyn Hill ward on the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead earlier this month. Term ends 2012.

South West

  • North Devon district council: Byelection on 11 August in Fremington ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Joanne Bell due to ill health. Term ends 2015.
  • North Somerset council: Vacancy in Backwell ward after the death of Independent councillor Tom Collinson. Term ends 2015.
  • Purbeck district council: Conservative Party candidate Peter Webb was elected councillor for Lytchett Matravers ward on 7 July. He gains a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats. As a result the Liberal Democrat administration, supported by the two Independent councillors, is reliant on the Chairman’s casting vote.
  • Somerset county council: Byelection on 4 August in South Petherton division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Anne Larpent. Term ends 2013.

West Midlands

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • North Yorkshire county council: Vacancy in Thornton Dale and The Wolds division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ron Haigh, who is moving out of the county to help care for his wife. Term ends 2013.
  • Wakefield borough council: Janet Holmes, the Labour Party candidate, was elected councillor for Horbury and South Ossett ward on 7 July. She gains the seat from the Conservatives.

Wales

  • Gwynedd county council: Byelection on 21 July in Glyder division after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Dai Rees Jones. There is also a vacancy in Diffwys and Maenofferen division after the resignation of Llais Gwynedd councillor Richard Lloyd Jones. Both terms end in May next year. Plaid Cymru have just got an overall majority on the council, which they will keep if they win one of the vacant seats.
  • Torfaen county borough council: Byelection on Tuesday 26 July in Snatchwood division after the death of Independent councillor Tom Gould. Term ends 2012.
