The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Amber Valley borough council: Cliff Roper, who was elected for the British National Party in Heanor East ward, has resigned the party whip to sit as an Independent councillor, in protest at events within the party.
  • Derbyshire county council: Brian Ridgway was elected county councillor for Eckington division on 16 June. He holds the seat for the Labour Party. There is a byelection on 7 July in Sawley division after the death of veteran Independent councillor Bill Camm. Term ends 2013.
  • Derbyshire Dales district council: Byelection on 23 June in Stanton ward after the sole candidate nominated for the full council elections withdrew. Term ends 2015.
  • Mansfield district council: Vacancy in Park Hall ward after the death of Labour councillor Dorothy Beastall just a day after she was re-elected. Term ends 2015.
  • Rushcliffe borough council: Eddie Fearon was re-elected, and David Smith was elected, as councillors for Manvers ward on 16 June, holding both seats for the Conservatives. This election was postponed from 5 May to 16 June after the death of one sitting Conservative councillor who was a candidate for re-election.
  • South Kesteven district council: The election in Deeping St James ward has been postponed from 5 May to 23 June after the death of sitting Liberal Democrat councillor Ken Joynson.

East of England

  • Broxbourne borough council: Byelection on 30 June in Cheshunt Central ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jason Brimson who has been arrested on suspicion of fraud. Term ends 2014.
  • Great Yarmouth borough council: Byelection on 23 June in St Andrews ward after the death of Conservative councillor Gerry Cook. Term ends May next year.
  • Norfolk county council: Byelection on 14 July in Old Catton division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stuart Dunn. Term ends 2013.
  • Rochford district council: Diane Hoy was elected councillor for Hullbridge ward in a byelection on 16 June. She wins for the Green Party a seat previously held by the Conservatives.

London

North East

  • Newcastle-upon-Tyne city council: Veronica Dunn was re-elected councillor for Byker ward and Linda Hobson was elected councillor for Westerhope ward on 16 June, both being from the Labour Party. Both elections were postponed polls from 5 May due to the deaths of candidates. While Byker ward was a Labour hold, in Westerhope Labour gained a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats and also defeated the sitting councillor who was running for re-election as an Independent candidate.

  • Purbeck district council: Byelection on 7 July in Lytchett Matravers ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mark Gracey. Term ends 2014.
  • Torbay council: Byelection on 23 June in Cockington with Chelston ward after the election of Conservative councillor Gordon Oliver as Mayor of Torbay. Term ends 2015.

West Midlands

Wales

  • Carmarthenshire county council: Byelection on 23 June in Llanegwad division after the disqualification of Independent councillor Dilwyn Williams who has not attended any council meeting in six months. The council had previously granted him leave of absence but did not renew it in May. Term ends May next year.
  • Conwy county borough council: Peter Groudd was elected councillor for Uwchaled division on 16 June. He was an Independent candidate and takes a seat previously held by a Plaid Cymru councillor; the Blaid did not contest the byelection.
  • Gwynedd county council: Dafydd Meurig was elected councillor for Arllechwedd division on 16 June. He gains for Plaid Cymru a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats. There is another byelection on 21 July in Glyder division after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Dai Rees Jones. Term ends in May next year. If Plaid Cymru hold the seat, they will have an overall majority on the council.
  • Torfaen county borough council: Vacancy in Snatchwood division after the death of Independent councillor Tom Gould. Term ends 2012.
  • Wrexham county borough council: At a byelection in Marchwiel division on 16 June, John Pritchard (Independent) was elected councillor vice June Fearnall (Independent), resigned.
