The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Blaby district council: Antony Moseley was elected councillor for Blaby South ward on 25 November, holding the seat for the Liberal Democrats.

East of England

  • East Hertfordshire district council: Byelection on 23 December in Sawbridgeworth ward due to the resignation of Independent councillor Nigel Clark. The term ends May 2011 but the resignation was before the cut-off date so a byelection may still be held.
  • Harlow borough council: There are two vacancies, in Staple Tye and in Sumners and Kingsmoor ward, due to the resignations of husband and wife Conservative councillors Lee and Sarah Dangerfield respectively. In both cases their resignation comes within six months of the end of their term and so no byelections will be held.
  • Norfolk county council: Vacancy in Humbleyard division due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor and council leader Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends 2013.
  • South Norfolk district council: Vacancy in Rustens ward due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends May 2011; as his formal resignation will be within six months of the ordinary election, no byelection can be held.
  • Thurrock borough council: Emma Colgate, who was elected for the British National Party in Tilbury Riverside and Thurrock Park ward, has left the party to sit as an ungrouped Independent councillor. She cited concerns with the party leadership as the reason for her move.
  • Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.

London

  • Tower Hamlets borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Spitalfields and Banglatown ward after the disqualification of Lutfur Rahman on election as Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He had been elected for the Labour Party but was expelled when he stood as an Independent against the Labour candidate for Mayor.

North East

  • Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.

  • Cornwall council: Vacancy in Camborne North ward after the resignation of Bill Jenkin who was elected as a Conservative but was sitting as a non-aligned councillor after legal troubles. Term ends 2013.
  • Gloucestershire county council: Vacancy in Rodborough division after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2013.
  • Poole council: Byelection on 2 December in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
  • Stroud district council: Vacancy in Amberley and Woodchester ward after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2012.
  • Wiltshire council: Byelection on Tuesday 21 December in Bromham, Rowde and Potterne ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Brown, who has pleaded guilty to fraud and theft. Term ends 2013.

West Midlands

  • Bromsgrove borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Marlbrook ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff. Term ends May 2011.
  • Rugby borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Dunchurch and Knightlow ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mike Galsworthy. Term ends 2014.
  • Solihull borough council: Vacancy in Olton ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Honor Cox. Term ends 2012. The Liberal Democrat/Labour coalition which runs Solihull may be endangered if the Conservatives win.
  • Worcestershire county council: Tony Miller was elected councillor for Bowbrook division on 25 November, holding the seat for the Conservatives. There is a second byelection on 16 December in Alvechurch division after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation (he was leader of the council at the time) was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff.Term ends 2013.

Yorkshire and the Humber

Wales

  • Ceredigion county council: Byelection on Tuesday 30 November in Ciliau Aeron division after the disqualification of Plaid Cymru councillor Moelfryn Maskell, who was found by the Adjudication Panel of Wales to have misused his position in relation to planning applications. Term ends 2012.
  • Conwy county borough council: Vacancy in Marl division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Linda Hurr. Term ends 2012.

Scotland

  • Angus council: Byelection on 3 February 2011 in Carnoustie and district ward after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Ralph Palmer. Term ends 2012.
