The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Blaby district council: Byelection on 25 November in Blaby South ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dr David Pollard. Term ends May 2011.

East of England

  • Cambridge city council: Byelection on 4 November in Coleridge ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Howell due to frustration with local politics. Term ends 2012.
  • East Hertfordshire district council: Byelection in Hunsdon ward on 11 November due to the resignation of Independent councillor Deborah Clark. There is also a vacancy in Sawbridgeworth ward due to the resignation of her husband, Nigel Clark. Both terms end May 2011.
  • Norfolk county council: Vacancy in Humbleyard division due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor and council leader Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends 2013.
  • South Norfolk district council: Vacancy in Rustens ward due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends May 2011.
  • Suffolk county council: Byelection on 11 November in Tower division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Farmer due to ill health. Term ends 2013.
  • Thurrock council: Ian Harrison, who was elected as a Conservative councillor for Corringham and Fobbing ward but left the party in August, has now joined the unofficial ‘Thurrock Concerned Conservatives’ group. However Neil Rockliffe (Chafford and North Stifford), who had been suspended from membership of the Conservative Party, has now returned. This leaves the composition of the council at Labour 22, Conservative 21, Thurrock Concerned Conservatives 3, Independents 2, British National Party 1.
  • Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.

London

  • Camden borough council: Labour candidate Jenny Headlam-Wells was elected councillor for Kentish Town ward on 28 October, holding the seat for her party.
  • Lewisham borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Ladywell ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tim Shand who is to work for the Sonke Gender Justice Network human rights charity in South Africa. Term ends 2014.
  • Tower Hamlets borough council: Vacancy in Spitalfields and Banglatown ward after the disqualification of Lutfur Rahman, now Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He had been elected for the Labour Party but was expelled when he stood as an Independent against the Labour candidate for Mayor.

North East

  • Northumberland county council: Byelection on 4 November in Ponteland East division after the death of Conservative councillor Mel Armstrong. Term ends 2013.
  • Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.

  • Bradford city council: Byelection on 25 November in Worth Valley ward after the resignation of former council leader Kris Hopkins (Conservative), now MP for Keighley. Term ends 2012.

  • Moray council: Byelection on 11 November in Forres ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Iain Young. Term ends 2012.
  • South Lanarkshire council: Alan Scott, candidate of the Scottish Labour Party, was elected councillor for East Kilbride West ward on 28 October. This is a seat held by Labour.
