The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Blaby district council: Byelection on 25 November in Blaby South ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dr David Pollard. Term ends May 2011.
East of England
- Cambridge city council: Byelection on 4 November in Coleridge ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Howell due to frustration with local politics. Term ends 2012.
- East Hertfordshire district council: Byelection in Hunsdon ward on 11 November due to the resignation of Independent councillor Deborah Clark. There is also a vacancy in Sawbridgeworth ward due to the resignation of her husband, Nigel Clark. Both terms end May 2011.
- Norfolk county council: Vacancy in Humbleyard division due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor and council leader Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends 2013.
- South Norfolk district council: Vacancy in Rustens ward due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends May 2011.
- Suffolk county council: Byelection on 11 November in Tower division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Farmer due to ill health. Term ends 2013.
- Thurrock council: Ian Harrison, who was elected as a Conservative councillor for Corringham and Fobbing ward but left the party in August, has now joined the unofficial ‘Thurrock Concerned Conservatives’ group. However Neil Rockliffe (Chafford and North Stifford), who had been suspended from membership of the Conservative Party, has now returned. This leaves the composition of the council at Labour 22, Conservative 21, Thurrock Concerned Conservatives 3, Independents 2, British National Party 1.
- Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.
- Camden borough council: Labour candidate Jenny Headlam-Wells was elected councillor for Kentish Town ward on 28 October, holding the seat for her party.
- Lewisham borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Ladywell ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tim Shand who is to work for the Sonke Gender Justice Network human rights charity in South Africa. Term ends 2014.
- Tower Hamlets borough council: Vacancy in Spitalfields and Banglatown ward after the disqualification of Lutfur Rahman, now Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He had been elected for the Labour Party but was expelled when he stood as an Independent against the Labour candidate for Mayor.
- Northumberland county council: Byelection on 4 November in Ponteland East division after the death of Conservative councillor Mel Armstrong. Term ends 2013.
- Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.
- Blackpool council: Vacancy in Stanley ward after the death of Conservative councillor Jean Kenrick. Term ends May 2011.
- Halton borough council: Phil Balmer, who was elected as a Conservative in Farnworth ward, has left the group and is now sitting as an Independent.
- Hyndburn borough council: Byelection on 18 November in Baxenden ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor John Griffiths. Term ends 2012.
- Liverpool city council: Double byelection on 18 November in Croxteth ward, after the death of Labour councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor Rose Bailey, and resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Phil Moffatt who is moving to Northern Ireland. Terms end 2011 and 2012.
- Manchester city council: Byelection on 4 November in Hulme ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Emily Lomax, who has been charged with drink-driving. Term ends 2012.
- St Helens borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Haydock ward following the death of the longest serving councillor in the country, Jim Caunce, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2012.
- South Lakeland district council: Byelection on 4 November in Lyth Valley ward following the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rosie Ballantyne-Smith. Term ends 2012.
- West Lancashire borough council: Vacancy in Derby ward after the death of Conservative councillor David Swiffen. Term ends May 2011.
- Chichester district council: Byelection on 25 November in Plaistow ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Andrews. Term ends May 2011.
- Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 11 November in Chale, Niton and Whitwell ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor William Myatt-Willington. Term ends 2013.
- Sevenoaks district council: Paul Golding, who was elected for the British National Party in Swanley St. Mary’s ward, is reported to have left the party.
- Bath and North East Somerset council: Carol Paradise, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Kingsmead ward, has joined the Conservative group after being deselected for the 2011 elections.
- Cheltenham borough council: Liberal Democrat candidate Chris Coleman was elected councillor for Springbank ward on 28 October, holding the seat for his party.
- Gloucestershire county council: Vacancy in Rodborough division after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2013.
- Poole council: Byelection on 2 December in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
- Stroud district council: Vacancy in Amberley and Woodchester ward after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2012.
- Swindon borough council: Byelection on 4 November in Moredon ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Steph Exell, in protest at public spending cuts. Term ends May 2011.
- Rugby borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Dunchurch and Knightlow ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mike Galsworthy. Term ends 2014.
- Sandwell borough council: Byelection on 18 November in Wednesbury North ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bill Archer due to health problems. Term ends 2012.
- Walsall borough council: Byelection on 11 November in Rushall-Shelfield ward after the death of Conservative councillor Albert Griffiths. Term ends May 2011.
- Worcestershire county council: Byelection on 25 November in Bowbrook division after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Sheldon. Term ends 2013.
- Bradford city council: Byelection on 25 November in Worth Valley ward after the resignation of former council leader Kris Hopkins (Conservative), now MP for Keighley. Term ends 2012.
- Carmarthenshire county council: Byelection on 4 November in Cenarth ward after the death of Independent councillor Haydn Jones. Term ends 2012.
- Ceredigion county council: Vacancy in Ciliau Aeron ward after the disqualification of Plaid Cymru councillor Moelfryn Maskell, who was found by the Adjudication Panel of Wales to have misused his position in relation to planning applications. Term ends 2012.
- Conwy county borough council: There is a byelection on 18 November in Eglwysbach ward after the resignation of Angharad Booth-Taylor of Plaid Cymru who is moving to Pembrokeshire. Marl ward has a vacancy after the resignation of Conservative councillor Linda Hurr. Both terms end in 2012.
- Isle of Anglesey council: Byelection on 18 November in Rhosneigr ward after the resignation of ‘Original Independent’ councillor and former council leader Phil Fowlie, due to ill health (although he has since been disqualified from office). Term ends 2012.
- Moray council: Byelection on 11 November in Forres ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Iain Young. Term ends 2012.
- South Lanarkshire council: Alan Scott, candidate of the Scottish Labour Party, was elected councillor for East Kilbride West ward on 28 October. This is a seat held by Labour.
