The byelection in Leyton ward of Waltham Forest borough council to fill the seat left vacant by Miranda Grell’s disqualification has been easily won by the Liberal Democrats.

There were three other byelections yesterday. The Scottish National Party won a seat at Elgin City South ward of Moray council which had previously been held by an Independent, while Labour held a seat at Tulketh ward, Preston city council and the Conservatives held on to Stretton ward, East Staffordshire district council.
