The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Charnwood: The byelection in Anstey ward held on 20 December was won by Paul Baines. Conservative gain from Liberal Democrats (who did not defend their seat)
  • Cumbria: The byelection in Kent Estuary division held on 20 December was won by Pete McSweeney. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • South Lakeland: The byelection in Arnside and Milnthorpe ward held on 20 December was won by Helen Chaffey. Liberal Democrat hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Boston: Anton Dani, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Fenside ward, but had left the party to form the Bostonian Independent group in May, has now joined the Conservative Party.
  • Chesterfield: Donald Parsons, who was elected for the Labour Party in Middlecroft and Poolsbrook ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Enfield: Stephanos Ioannou, who was elected as a Conservative in Southgate ward but left the group in July, has now returned.
  • Forest of Dean: Jim Simpson, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Alvington, Aylburton and West Lydney ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • Gravesham: Two further Conservative councillors have left the party to join the Gravesham Independent Conservatives group. They are Robin Theobald (Shorne, Cobham and Luddesdown ward) and Michael Wenban (Woodlands ward).
  • Hounslow: Khulique Malik, who was elected for the Labour Party in Cranford ward but had the whip suspended in May, has now been restored to the Labour group.
  • Sevenoaks: Stephen Lindsay, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Crockenhill and Well Hill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • South Kesteven: Bob Broughton, who was elected as an Independent in Market and West Deeping ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • West Oxfordshire: Alvin Adams, who was elected for the Conservatives in Witney South ward but left the party to sit as an Independent in June, has now returned to the Conservatives.

New vacancies

  • Brighton and Hove: Hollingdean and Stanmer ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Caroline Penn. Her term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection.
  • Durham: Wingate division, after the death of Labour councillor Leo Taylor. Term ends 2021.
  • Lambeth: Thornton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jane Edbrooke, who is taking a politically restricted post. Term ends 2022.
  • Malvern Hills: Pickersleigh ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Leanne Halling. Her term was due to end in May so there is no ability to call a byelection.
  • Mid Devon: Silverton ward, after the death of Liberal Party councillor Jenny Roach. Her term would have ended in May so she will not be replaced at a byelection.
  • North West Leicestershire: Ibstock East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Felix Fenning. His term would have ended in May so he will not be replaced.
  • Rossendale: Cribden ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Janet Graham. The term would have ended in May so no byelection will be held.
  • South Gloucestershire: Patchway ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Eve Orpen. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
  • South Hams: Charterlands ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Elizabeth Huntley. She was in a term ending in May so no byelection can be held.
  • South Staffordshire: Trysull and Seisdon ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Robert McCardle. His term was due to end in May so he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Surrey: Warlingham division, after the resignation of outgoing council leader David Hodge (Conservative). Term ends 2021.

Date for byelection

  • Surrey: The byelection due in Warlingham division will be held on 31 January 2019.
