The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Lichfield: The byelection in Stowe ward held on 27 September was won by Angela Lax. Conservative hold.
  • Nottingham: The byelection in Clifton North ward held on 27 September was won by Roger Steel. Conservative gain from Labour (although the outgoing councillor had been sitting as an Independent).
  • Salford: The byelection in Eccles ward held on 27 September was won by Mike McCusker. Labour hold.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Basingstoke and Deane: Norden ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor George Hood. Term ends May next year.
  • Ealing: Dormers Wells ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Tej Ram Bagha. Term ends 2022.
  • Enfield: Bush Hill Park ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jon Daniels. Term ends 2022.
  • Harlow: Bush Fair ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ian Beckett. Term ends May next year.
  • Harlow: Nettleswell ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor and deputy leader Waida Forman. Term ends 2020.
  • Highland: Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Kate Stephen. Term ends 2021.
  • Oxfordshire: Grove and Wantage division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat county councillor Zoe Patrick. Term ends 2021.

Dates for byelections

  • Basingstoke and Deane: The byelection due in Norden ward will be held on 25 October.
  • Bassetlaw: The byelection due in East Retford West ward will be held on 15 November.
  • Harlow: The byelection due in Bush Fair ward will be held on 8 November.
  • Highland: The byelection due in Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh ward will be held on 6 December.

Other updates

  • Dudley: Following the defection of Mike Attwood from Conservative to Labour in July, the Labour group successfully moved to remove the Conservative council leadership and elect a Labour administration. Labour were supported by the council’s sole Independent member, Heather Rogers (who had originally been elected for the Conservatives but left the party in March 2017).
