No problem for Maria in Elgin

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Middlesbrough: The byelection in Ayresome ward on 13 July was won by Vic Walkington. Labour hold.
  • Middlesbrough: The byelection in Park End and Beckfield ward on 13 July was won by Jan Mohan. Independent hold.
  • Moray: The byelection in Elgin City North ward on 13 July was won by Maria McLean. Conservative gain from an Independent.
  • North Warwickshire: The byelection held in Coleshill South ward on 13 July was won by Caroline Symonds. Conservative hold.
  • South Oxfordshire: The byelection in Didcot South ward on 13 July was won by Mokbul Khan. Labour hold.
  • South Oxfordshire: The byelection in Didcot West ward on 13 July was won by Ian Snowdon. Conservative hold.
  • Three Rivers: The byelection in Chorleywood South and Maple Cross ward on 13 July was won by Phil Williams. Liberal Democrat hold. As a result the Liberal Democrats have regained an overall majority on the council.

Changes of allegiance

  • Bournemouth: Steve Bartlett, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Redhill and Northbourne ward, has left the party and is now denoted as ‘Other’.
  • Conwy: Garffild Lloyd Lewis, who was elected for Plaid Cymru in Llangernyw division, has left the party to sit as an unaligned councillor.
  • East Hertfordshire: Ben Harris-Quinney, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Braughing ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Forest Heath: Simon Cole, who was elected as an Independent candidate in Exning ward and sat in the West Suffolk Independents group, has now joined the Conservative group.
  • Lancaster: Andrew Kay, who was elected for the Green Party in Bulk ward, has joined the Labour Party.
  • Sefton: Tony Dawson, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Dukes ward, has been suspended from the party after questions over his activity during the general election campaign.
  • Torridge: Roger Darch, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Torrington ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Torridge: Robin Julian, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Clovelly Bay ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • Adur: Mash Barn ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor David Lambourne>. Term ends May next year.
  • Croydon: South Norwood ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kathy Bee who is taking up a civil service role. Term ends May next year.
  • Darlington: Eastbourne ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Roddy Francis. Term ends 2019.
  • Durham: Trimdon and Thornley division, after the death of Labour councillor Morris Nicholls. Term ends 2021.
  • Harrogate: Washburn ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Christine Ryder. Term ends 2020.
  • Lancaster: Skerton West ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Karen Leytham. Term ends 2019.

Dates for byelections

  • North Lanarkshire: The byelection due in Fortissat ward will be held on 7 September.
  • Peterborough: The byelection due in Park ward will be held on 17 August.
