The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Cornwall: The byelection in Menheniot division on 14 April was won by Phil Seeva. Conservative hold.
  • Cornwall: The byelection in Wadebridge West division on 14 April was won by Karen McHugh. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Rutland: The vacancy in Greetham ward has been filled by Nick Begy, son of the former councillor Roger Begy. He was elected unopposed as a Conservative when nominations closed on 7 April.
  • Taunton Deane: The byelection in Halcon ward on 14 April was won by Chris Booth. Liberal Democrat hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Stockport: Two councillors have resigned from the Liberal Democrat group, in a row over the future of Stockport market. They are Patrick McAuley (Manor ward) and Mags Kirkham (Bredbury Green and Romiley ward).

New vacancies

  • Cornwall: Newquay Treviglas division, after the resignation of UK Independence Party county councillor Mark Hicks. Term ends 2017.
  • Epping Forest: Loughton Roding ward, after the death of Loughton Residents’ Association councillor Ken Angold-Stephens. As his term was due to end next month, there will be no byelection.
  • Luton: High Town ward, after the resignation of Aysegul Gurbuz who had been elected for the Labour Party but was recently suspended from the party over controversial tweets. Term ends 2019.
  • Rushmoor: Manor Park ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Ron Hughes. His term was due to end next month, so there will be no byelection.

Dates for byelections

  • Merton: The byelection due in St Helier ward will be held on 19 May.

Postponed poll

  • Rushmoor: The election due on 5 May in Aldershot Park ward has been postponed to 2 June, after to the death of Ron Hughes, who had been nominated as the Conservative candidate.
