Mrs Gaskell gets a new Labour councillor

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Result

Bolton: The byelection in Crompton ward on 11 February was won by Bilkis Bashir Ismail. Labour hold.
Coventry: The byelection in Lower Stoke ward on 11 February was won by Rupinder Singh. Labour hold.
Eastleigh: The byelection in West End North ward on 11 February was won by Janice Asman. Liberal Democrat hold.
Hounslow: The byelection in Cranford ward on 11 February was won by Sukhbir Dhaliwal. Labour hold.

North Lanarkshire: Julie McAnulty, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Coatbridge North and Glenboig ward, has been suspended from the party.
Spelthorne: Two Conservative councillors, Penny Forbes-Forsyth and Steven Burkmar (both representing Staines South ward), have left the party to sit as Independents. Their move follows that of Forbes-Forsyth’s fiancée, the former Conservative leader of the council, Quentin Edgington.
Vale of Glamorgan: Kevin Mahoney, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Sully division, has left the party over the selection process for candidates for the National Assembly for Wales. He will now sit as an Independent councillor.

Broadland: Aylsham ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jo Cottingham. Term ends 2019.
Cornwall: Menheniot division, after the death of Conservative councillor Bernie Ellis. Term ends 2017.
Cornwall: Wadebridge West division, after the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Scott Mann, now Member of Parliament for North Cornwall. Term ends 2017.
East Sussex: St Helens and Silverhill division, after the death of Labour county councillor John Hodges. Term ends 2017.
Forest Heath: Brandon West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Bimson, who has since died. Term ends 2019.
Hastings: Old Hastings ward, after the death of Labour councillor John Hodges. Term ends 2018.
Portsmouth: Nelson ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Ken Ferrett (who was elected for the Labour Party). As his term was due to end in May, no byelection can be held.
Staffordshire: Uttoxeter Town division, after the death of Conservative county councillor Geoff Morrison. Term ends 2017.

Broadland: The byelection due in Aylsham ward will be held on 17 March.
Dundee: The byelection due in Maryfield ward will be held on 31 March.
Perth and Kinross: The byelection due in Almond and Earn ward will be held on 7 April.

Rotherham: The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has returned several functions to local control; commissioners remain in control of licensing, children’s and social services.
