Result
- Stockton-on-Tees: The byelection in Parkfield and Oxbridge ward on 28 January was won by Allan Mitchell. Labour hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Hertsmere: David Burcombe, who was elected for the Conservatives in Borehamwood Cowley Hill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Spelthorne: The council leader Quentin Edgington, who was elected for the Conservatives in Riverside and Laleham ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor after he was voted out as Conservative group leader. An emergency meeting of the council on Tuesday is likely to remove him as council leader.
New vacancies
- Essex: Clacton East division, impending after Tendring First councillor Pierre Oxley was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment (suspended) for fraud. He will be disqualified on 22 February if he does not appeal. Term ends 2017.
- Melton: Egerton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Peter Faulkner. Term ends 2019.
Date for byelection
- Havant: The byelection due in Bondfields ward will be held on 3 March.
- Rutland: The byelection due in Whissendine ward will be held on 3 March.
