The Liberal Democrats won the Teversham ward on South Cambridgeshire district council from the Conservatives in a byelection on Thursday 20 November. Labour kept hold of Mile End East ward on Tower Hamlets borough council, winning easily in a ward which had been split at the 2006 local elections.

There are two defections to note. Debra Storr, elected as a Liberal Democrat from Ellon and District ward to Aberdeenshire council, has left the party group complaining of a ‘witch hunt’ after she opposed Donald Trump’s golf resort plan.

Meanwhile in Derby city council, Phil Ingall (Chellaston ward) who was elected as Labour, has now joined the Conservatives.
