The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:
East of England
- Central Bedfordshire council: Byelection on 12 September in Dunstable Northfields ward after the death of Conservative councillor Denise Green. Term ends 2015.
- East Cambridgeshire district council: Lis Every was elected councillor for Ely East ward on 5 September, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Hertfordshire county council: Byelection on 12 September in Hitchin North division after the death of Labour councillor David Billing. Term ends 2017.
- Luton council: Byelection on 17 October in Barnfield ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Martin Pantling. Term ends 2015.
- North Hertfordshire district council: Byelection on 12 September in Hitchin Oughton ward after the death of former Labour group leader David Billing. Term ends May 2014.
- St Edmundsbury borough council: Paula Ward was elected councillor for Bardwell ward on 5 September; she retained the seat for the Conservative Party. There is also a byelection on 3 October in Abbeygate ward after the death of Conservative councillor Charlotte Howard. Term ends 2015.
- Tendring district council: Byelection on 26 September in St James’s ward after the death of Conservative councillor Gill Downing. Term ends 2015.
- Thurrock council: Vacancy in Stifford Clays ward after the death of Labour councillor Diana Hale. Term ends 2015. The Labour group would lose its overall majority if it failed to hold the seat.
- Boston borough council: Tiggs Keywood-Wainwright was elected councillor for Fenside ward on 5 September. She wins for the UK Independence Party a seat previously held by a member of the English Democrats.
- Charnwood borough council: Mary Draycott was elected councillor for Loughborough Ashby ward on 5 September, holding the seat for the Labour Party. There is another byelection, on 12 September, in Wreake Villages ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor and cabinet member Matthew Blain. There are further seats vacant in Loughborough Hastings ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Litu Choudhury, and Shepshed West ward, after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Bernard Burr. All terms end in 2015.
- Daventry district council: Bryn Aldridge was elected councillor for Ravensthorpe ward on 5 September. He holds the seat for the Conservative Party.
- East Lindsey district council: Byelection on 12 September in Frithville ward after the resignation of East Lindsey Independent Group councillor Steve Doughty. There is also a byelection on 3 October in Chapel St Leonards ward after the resignation of East Lindsey Independent Group councillor Philip Leivers. Both terms end in 2015.
- Harborough district council: Vacancy in Bosworth ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Brian Smith. Term ends 2015.
- Northamptonshire county council: Ron Sawbridge was elected county councillor for Middleton Cheney division on 5 September, and so returns to the council four months after losing his seat in Brackley. He held the division for the Conservative Party.
- Brent borough council: Impending vacancy in Dudden Hill ward where Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues has said he is intending to resign in November (within six months of a full council election). He has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011.
- Durham council: Vacancy in Crook division after the death of Labour councillor Geoff Mowbray. Term ends 2017.
- Blackpool council: Byelection on 26 September in Highfield ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Chris Maughan who is moving to the East Midlands. Term ends 2015.
- Carlisle city council: Tom Dodd was elected councillor for Yewdale ward on 5 September, holding the seat for the Labour Party. There is a byelection on 17 October in Dalston ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nicola Clarke. Term ends 2015.
- Manchester city council: Byelection on 10 October in Ancoats and Clayton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor and deputy Leader Jim Battle, now deputy police and crime commissioner for Greater Manchester. Term ends May next year.
- St Helens borough council: Vacancy in Billinge and Seneley Green ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Alison Bacon. Term ends 2016.
- Salford city council: Byelection on 10 October in Weaste and Seedley ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Thomas Murphy. Term ends 2016.
- South Lakeland district council: Byelection on 17 October in Levens ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mary Orr. Term ends 2015.
- West Lancashire borough council: Byelection on 10 October in Parbold ward after the death of Conservative councillor Barbara Kean. Term ends May next year.
- Wigan borough council: Byelection in Winstanley ward on 17 October after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Rona Winkworth. Term ends 2015.
- Aylesbury Vale district council: Byelection on 3 October in Oakfield ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Steve Patrick, who was town Mayor of Aylesbury. Term ends 2015.
- Canterbury city council: Byelection on 19 September in Seasalter ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Mike Sharp. Term ends 2015.
- Cherwell district council: Byelection on 26 September in Banbury Ruscote ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Pat Cartledge. Term ends 2015.
- Chichester district council: Byelection on 17 October in Westbourne ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maureen Elliott. Term ends 2015.
- East Hampshire district council: Byelection on 19 September in Four Marks and Medstead ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Pat Seward. Term ends 2015.
- Havant borough council: Vacancy in Waterloo ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Hunt due to ill health. Term ends 2016.
- Mole Valley district council: Byelection on 26 September in Mickleham, Westhumble and Pixham ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rebecca McCheyne who is moving out of the district. Term ends 2015.
- Oxford city council: Byelection on 19 September in North ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor and former Lord Mayor Alan Armitage. Term ends 2014.
- Sevenoaks district council: Byelection on 26 September in Crockenhill and Well Hill ward after the death of Labour councillor Jenny Dibsdall, who was elected in a March 2012 byelection. Term ends 2015.
- Spelthorne borough council: Vacancy in Riverside and Laleham ward after the death of the Mayor of Spelthorne, Isobel Napper, who was a Conservative councillor. Term ends 2015.
- West Oxfordshire district council: Vacancy in Chipping Norton ward after the death of Labour councillor Rob Evans. Term ends 2016.
- West Sussex county council: Byelection on 26 September in Storrington division after the death of Conservative councillor Frank Wilkinson. There is also a vacancy in Warnham and Rusper division after the death of Conservative councillor Mick Hodgson. Both terms end in 2017.
- Woking borough council: Byelection on Tuesday 17 September in Maybury and Sheerwater ward after the avoidance of the election of Liberal Democrat councillor Mohammed Bashir as a result of an election petition. Term ends 2016.
- Wycombe district council: Roger Metcalfe was elected councillor for Hambleden Valley ward on 5 September, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Cornwall council: Stephen Knightley was elected councillor for Wadebridge East ward on 5 September. He wins for the Liberal Democrats a seat previously held by an Independent councillor.
- Forest of Dean district council: There are two byelections on 26 September, both caused by the deaths of councillors. Coleford East ward was vacated by the death of Labour councillor Frank Baynham. Redmarley ward was vacated by Conservative councillor Peter Ede. Both terms end in 2015.
- Mid Devon district council: Byelection on 26 September in Way ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sarah Fox. Term ends 2015.
- Taunton Deane district council: Byelection on 3 October in Taunton Halcon ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor and former Mayor, Steve Brooks. Term ends 2015.
- Torridge district council: Cathrine Simmons was elected councillor for Torrington ward on 5 September. She wins for the Green Party a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats, who did not nominate an official candidate in the byelection.
- Dudley borough council: Byelection on 19 September in Coseley East ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor George Davies. Term ends 2016.
- Barnsley borough council: Byelection on 26 September in Wombwell ward after the death of Labour councillor Denise Wilde. Term ends 2014. There is another byelection on 10 October in Royston ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Graham Kyte. Term ends 2016.
- North Yorkshire county council: Byelection on 10 October in Selby South division after the death of Conservative county councillor Margaret Hulme. Term ends 2017.
- Isle of Anglesey council: Peter Rogers, who was elected as an Independent candidate in Bro Aberffraw division, has left the Independent group on the council to sit as an unaffiliated member. He is critical of the Independent-led executive.
- Neath Port Talbot county borough council: Byelection on 17 October in Sandfields East division after the death of Labour councillor Collin Crowley. Term ends 2017.
- Newport city council: Vacancy in Pillgwenlly division after the death of Labour councillor Ron Jones. Term ends 2017.
- Fife council: Byelection on 24 October in Dunfermline South ward after the death of Labour councillor Mike Rumney. Term ends 2017.
- Glasgow city council: Byelection on 10 October in Govan ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor and former group leader Alison Hunter. Term ends 2017.
- Scottish Borders council: Byelection on 10 October in Tweeddale West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nathaniel Buckingham. Term ends 2017.
- South Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 24 October in Hamilton South ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor Bobby Lawson. Term ends 2017.
