The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Leicestershire county council: Byelection on 3 November in Syston Ridgeway division after the death of Conservative councillor Mike Preston. Term ends 2013.
- Mansfield district council: Ann Norman, candidate of the Labour Party, was elected councillor for Park Hall ward in the byelection on 20 October. She holds the seat for her party.
- Melton borough council: Vacancy in Frisby on the Wreake ward after the death of Conservative councillor Nigel Angrave. Term ends 2015.
- Nottingham city council: Michael Edwards was elected councillor for Bridge ward on 20 October; he holds the seat for the Labour Party.
- Rutland county council: Vacancy in Uppingham ward after the death of Independent councillor Colin Forsyth. Term ends 2015.
East of England
- Great Yarmouth borough council: Conservative Party candidate Martin Plane was elected councillor for Bradwell South and Hopton ward on 20 October. He held the seat for his party.
- Hertsmere borough council: Vacancy in Potters Bar Furzefield ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ron Morris. Term ends 2015.
- Ipswich borough council: Byelection on 10 November in St Margaret’s ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sarah Stokes. Term ends 2015.
- Rochford district council: Vacancy in Rayleigh Central ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former council chairman Tony Humphries. Term ends May next year.
- South Cambridgeshire district council: Alex Riley, who was elected as an Independent in Longstanton ward, has joined the Conservative group on the council.
- Bromley borough council: David Jefferys has been elected councillor for Shortlands ward, in a byelection held on 20 October. He held the seat for the Conservatives.
- Islington borough council: Byelection on 10 November in St Marys ward after the disqualification of Joan Coupland, who did not attend any meetings of the council or its committees for six months. Coupland had begun her council career as a Liberal Democrat, defected to Labour in 2005, but left Labour to sit as an Independent in August this year. Term ends 2014.
- Redbridge borough council: Byelection in Aldborough ward on 10 November after the resignation of Labour councillor Mike Figg due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.
- Redcar and Cleveland council: Byelection on 17 November for two seats in Zetland ward, after the resignations of Ron Harrison and Jim Rogers. Both sitting Liberal Democrat councillors for this ward have resigned over a legal dispute over whether they were disqualified from election in May as members of the teaching staff of Eston Park School; this is a foundation school which is funded through the local education authority and raises the question of disqualification under s. 80 (1) (a) of the Local Government Act 1972. Ron Harrison is seeking re-election as he is no longer working at the school. Both terms end in 2015.
- Cheshire West and Chester council: Lynn Clare (Labour Party) is the new councillor for Ellesmere Port Town ward, following the byelection on 20 October. The result marks a Labour hold of the seat.
- Lancashire county council: Byelection on 27 October in Wyreside division after the death of Conservative councillor Bob Mutch. Term ends 2013.
- Ribble Valley borough council: Byelection on 17 November in Salthill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor David Berryman. Term ends 2015.
- Salford city council: Michael Wheeler of the Labour Party was elected councillor for Eccles ward on 20 October, holding the seat for his party. Salford city council has received a valid petition for a Mayoral referendum and will therefore hold a referendum in January on whether to introduce a directly-elected Mayor.
- South Lakeland district council: Vacancy in Ulverston North ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former council leader Colin Hodgson. Term ends May next year.
- Warrington council: Byelection on 17 November in Poulton North ward after the sudden death of Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Oliver, who won the seat in a byelection on 28 July. Term ends May next year.
- Adur district council: Nick Pigott (Conservative Party) was elected councillor for Cokeham ward on 18 October, narrowly holding the seat with a majority of six votes over the Labour Party candidate.
- Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 17 November in West Wight division after the death of Independent councillor Stuart Dyer. Term ends 2013.
- Mole Valley district council: Stella Brooks of the Liberal Democrats was elected councillor for Bookham South ward on 20 October, holding the seat for her party.
- Wycombe district council: Byelection on 24 November in Hazlemere South ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bob Bate. Term ends 2015.
- Cornwall council: Byelection on 27 October in Bude North and Stratton division after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Nathan Bale. There is another byelection on 24 November in Wendron division after the death of Independent councillor Mike Clayton. Both terms end in 2013.
- Forest of Dean district council: Vacancy in Cinderford West ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor of Cinderford Frank Beard. Term ends 2015.
- Somerset county council: Vacancy in Brent division after the death of Conservative councillor Alan Ham. Term ends 2013.
- Birmingham city council: Byelection on 10 November in Sparkbrook ward after the resignation of Respect councillor Salma Yaqoob due to ill health. Term ends 2014.
- East Staffordshire borough council: Byelection on 3 November in Yoxall ward after the resignation of former Mayor and Conservative councillor David Brookes, who wishes to spend more time on his farm. Term ends 2015.
- Newcastle under Lyme borough council: Byelection on 27 October in Newchapel ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Christian Barber. Term ends May next year.
- Stafford borough council: Jill Hood, an Independent candidate who is a past Mayor of Stone, was elected councillor for Walton ward on 20 October. She won a seat previously held by a Conservative.
- Tamworth borough council: Vacancy in Mercian ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Sam Munn. Term ends May next year.
- Walsall borough council: Byelection on 27 October in Bloxwich East ward after the death of Conservative councillor Bill Tweddle. Term ends May next year.
- Bradford city council: Byelection on 24 November in Great Horton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Rev Paul Flowers. Term ends May next year.
- North Yorkshire county council: Byelection on 27 October in Thornton Dale and The Wolds division due to the resignation of Conservative councillor Ron Haigh, who has moved out of the county to help care for his wife. Term ends 2013.
- Blaenau Gwent county borough council: Following the resignation of Des Hillman as leader of the council, John Mason has been chosen as his successor with the consent of all parties; he will form an all-party administration including the Labour group, who had previously been in opposition..
- Newport city council: Vacancy in Alway division after the death of veteran Labour councillor Ken Powell. Term ends May next year.
- Swansea city and county council: Vacancy in Castle division after the death of Labour councillor Barbara Hynes. Term ends May next year.
- Wrexham county borough council: Byelection on 17 November in Ruabon division after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Barrie Price, who was deputy leader of his group. Term ends May next year.
- Argyll and Bute council: Byelection on 3 November in Oban North and Lorn ward after the death of Donald MacDonald, who was a member of the Scottish National Party. Term ends May next year.
- Glasgow city council: Byelection on 17 November in Hillhead ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor George Roberts. Term ends May next year.
- Highland council: Byelection on 3 November in Inverness South ward after the resignation of John Holden, who was originally elected for the Labour Party but was sitting as an Independent following his conviction for benefit fraud. Term ends May next year.
- North Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 27 October in Coatbridge North and Glenboig ward after the death of Labour councillor Tony Clarke, brother of local MP Tom Clarke. Term ends May next year.
- Shetland Islands council: Byelection on 15 December in Central ward after the resignation of non-party councillor Iris Hawkins, who is to be married. Term ends May next year.
