The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Cardiff: The byelection in Ely division on 21 February was won by Andrea Gibson. Plaid Cymru gain from Labour.
  • Northamptonshire: The byelection in Oundle division on 21 February was won by Annabel de Capell Brooke. The Conservatives regain a seat they previously held, where the departing councillor had been sitting as an Independent.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Basildon: Vange ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kayte Block who has taken a politically restricted job as a prosecutor. Term ends 2020.
  • Cambridge: Trumpington ward, after the impending resignation of Independent councillor Donald Adey who was elected as a Liberal Democrat. He has been under pressure to quit after moving to Fife. Term ends 2020.
  • Durham: Esh and Witton Gilbert division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Michael McGaun. Term ends 2021.
  • Rutland: Oakham South West ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Richard Alderman. His term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
  • Tamworth: Castle ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Steve Claymore. His term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection for a replacement.

Dates for byelections

  • Basildon: The byelection due in Vange ward will be held on 21 March.
  • Durham: The byelection due in Esh and Witton Gilbert division will be held on 21 March.
