The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Fylde: The byelection in Ansdell ward held on 2 August was won by Chris Dixon. Conservative hold.
- King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: The byelection in Snettisham ward held on 2 August was won by Stuart Dark. Conservative hold.
- Peterborough: The byelection in Orton Longueville ward held on 2 August was won by Gavin Elsey who returns to the council only three months after losing his seat in Orton Waterville ward. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Copeland: John Dirom, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ennerdale ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Gravesham: The council leader David Turner (Istead Rise ward) and nine fellow members have left the Conservative Party to form an Independent Conservative group, after they were denied approval to stand as Conservative candidates in the election next May. Their move means the council has no majority group and it is uncertain what will happen to the administration.
- North Devon: Brian Greenslade, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Barnstaple Pilton ward, has had his party membership suspended after a standards inquiry found against him.
- Northamptonshire: Heather Smith, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Oundle division and was previously leader of the council, has left the party after feeling she was being made a scapegoat for the council’s financial difficulties.
- Preston: Rowena Edmondson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Greyfriars ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent Conservative councillor.
- Ribble Valley: Five members elected for the Conservative Party have left to set up a Democratic Conservative group. They are Terry Hill and Joyce Holgate (both Whalley ward), Paul Elms (Waddington and West Bradford ward), Ruth Hargreaves (St Mary’s ward), and Robert Thompson (Wiswell and Pendleton ward).
- Solihull: Alan Rebeiro, who was elected for the Conservatives in Knowle ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He is opposed to changes in parking charges.
- Somerset: Problems over the council’s finances have led two councillors elected for the Conservatives to leave the party. Dean Ruddle (Somerton division) has become an Independent, while Neil Bloomfield has joined the Liberal Democrats.
- South Kesteven: Judy Stevens, who was elected as an Independent in Deeping St James ward, has joined the Conservative group.
- South Somerset: Neil Bloomfield, who was eleced for the Conservative Party in Martock ward, has joined the Liberal Democrats. His move follows his resignation from a county council committee over the council’s finances.
- Test Valley: Ian Hibberd, who was elected for the Conservatives in Romsey Extra ward, has left the party to become an Independent over a remark about a fellow councillor.
- Wealden: Greg Rose, who was elected for the Conservatives in Crowborough East ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He disagrees with their proposed local plan.
New vacancies
- Cambridge: Petersfield ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Anne Sinnott who is opposed to allowing trans women to use women’s toilets. Term ends 2022.
- Epsom and Ewell: Nonsuch ward, after the death of Residents’ Association councillor David Wood. Term ends May next year.
- Lambeth: Coldharbour ward, after the death of Labour councillor Matt Parr. Term ends 2022.
- Lichfield: Stowe ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Joanne Grange only six months after she was elected. Term ends May next year.
- Pembrokeshire: Pembroke St Mary North division, after the resignation of non-aligned councillor Dai Boswell, who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends 2022.
