The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Bath and North East Somerset: The byelection in Kingsmead ward held on 5 July was won by Sue Craig. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Lichfield: The byelection in Curborough ward held on 5 July was won by Colin Ball. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Corporation of London: Emma Edhem was elected Alderman for Candlewick ward at the poll on 5 July. She stood as a non-partisan candidate.
  • Corporation of London: Robert Hughes-Penney was elected Alderman for Cheap ward at the poll on 5 July. He stood as a non-partisan candidate.
  • Shropshire: The byelection in Shifnal South and Cosford division held on 5 July was won by Edward Bird. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Arun: Graham Tyler, who was elected for the Conservatives in Rustington East ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Bradford: Mark Shaw, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bingley ward, has left the party to sit as a Bingley Independent councillor.
  • Canterbury: Heather Taylor, who was elected for the Conservatives in Sturry ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Dudley: Mike Attwood, who was elected for the Conservatives in Norton ward, has joined the Labour Party. His move means that the Conservative administration is now endangered, relying on support from an ex-Conservative Independent councillor and the Mayor’s casting vote.
  • Edinburgh: Ashley Graczyk, who was elected for the Conservatives in Sighthill/Gorgie ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. She is opposed to the UK government’s policies in disability issues.
  • Kettering: Former council leader Jim Hakewill, who was elected for the Conservatives in Slade ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Mendip: Helen Sprawson-White, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Frome Oakfield ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Peterborough: Bella Saltmarsh, who was elected for the Liberal Party in Dogsthorpe ward, has joined the Liberal Democrat group on the council. Her move is understood to relate to committee allocation and she remains a member of the Liberal Party.
  • Rochford: Daniel Efde, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Foulness and The Wakerings ward but left to form the Friends of Rochford Group in February, has now joined the Conservative Party.
  • Rossendale: Pam Bromley, who was elected for the Labour Party in Whitewell ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • South Derbyshire: Robert Coe, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Swadlincote ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor following a criminal conviction.
  • Wakefield: Richard Taylor, who was elected for the Labour Party in Featherstone ward, has had the party whip suspended and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • West Oxfordshire: A group of three councillors have recently left the Conservatives and now form the Independent group. They are Peter Handley (Carterton North West ward), Alvin Adams (Witney South ward), and Charles Cottrell-Dormer (Stonesfield and Tackley ward).
  • Winchester: Jamie Scott, who was last elected for the Liberal Democrats in St Luke ward but backed the Conservatives in a crunch vote last week, has now rejoined the Conservative Party from which he had defected in 2014.

New vacancy

  • Cornwall: Bude division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Nigel Pearce. Term ends 2021.

Date for byelection

  • Cornwall: The byelection due in Newquay Treviglas division will be held on 9 August.
