Results
- Aylesbury Vale: The byelection in Quainton ward on 3 May was won by Scott Raven. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Braintree: The byelection in Bocking North ward on 3 May was won by Anthony Everard. Labour gain from Conservative.
- Braintree: The byelection in Hatfield Peverel and Terling ward on 3 May was won by James Coleridge. Conservative hold.
- Cheshire West and Chester: The byelection in Ellesmere Port Town ward on 3 May was won by Mike Edwardson. Labour hold.
- Daventry: The byelection in Walgrave ward on 3 May was won by Lesley Woolnough. Conservative hold.
- Hertfordshire: The byelection in St Albans North division on 3 May was won by Roma Mills. Labour gain from Liberal Democrat.
- Leicestershire: The byelection in Stoney Stanton and Croft division on 3 May was won by Maggie Wright. Conservative hold.
- St Edmundsbury: The byelection in Haverhill East on 3 May was won by Robin Pilley. Conservative hold.
- St Edmundsbury: The byelection in Haverhill North on 3 May was won by Elaine McManus. Conservative hold.
- South Holland: The byelection in Donington, Quadring and Gosberton ward on 3 May was won by Susan Wray. Conservative hold.
- Swale: The byelection in Sheppey East ward on 3 May was won by Lynd Taylor. Conservative hold.
- Torridge: The byelection in Bideford East ward on 3 May was won by James Hellyer. Conservative gain from the UK Independence Party.
- Weymouth and Portland: The byelection in Weymouth West on 3 May was won by Richard Nickinson. The Conservatives regain a seat lost through the defection of the former councillor to the Green Party.
Changes of allegiance
- Aberdeenshire: Sebastian Leslie, who was elected for the Conservative Party, has had his party membership suspended and is now sitting as an Aligned Independent councillor.
- Lancaster: Oscar Thynne, who was elected for the Labour Party in John O’Gaunt ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned Independent councillor.
- Pendle: Rosemary Carroll, who was elected for the Conservatives in Earby ward but had the whip suspended in July 2017 over a controversial facebook post, has been readmitted to the Conservative group. As a result the party now has an overall majority on the council.
- Torbay: Mark King, who was elected as a Conservative in Cockington with Chelston ward but left the party in October, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
New vacancies
- Doncaster: Town ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor John McHale. Term ends 2021.
- East Dorset: Verwood East ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Boyd Mortimer. Term ends 2019.
- Watford: Oxhey ward, after the disqualification of Liberal Democrat councillor Peter Taylor, now Mayor of Watford. Term ends 2019.
Postponed local elections
- Brent: The election in Willesden Green ward has been postponed following the death of Labour candidate and sitting councillor Lesley Jones.
- Southwark: The election in London Bridge and Bermondsey West ward has been postponed following the death of Conservative candidate Toby Eckersley, also a former councillor (1977-2014).
Dates for byelections
- Doncaster: The byelection due in Town ward will be held on 14 June.
- South Oxfordshire: The byelection due in Benson and Crowmarsh ward will be held on 7 June.
