Mansell takes poll position for Taunton Greens

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Fylde: The byelection in Heyhouses ward on 5 April was won by Sally Nash, daughter of the late councillor Barbara Nash. Conservative hold.
  • Highland: The byelection in Caol and Mallaig ward on 5 April was won by Denis Rixson. Liberal Democrat gain from Scottish National Party.
  • New Forest: The byelection in Milford ward on 5 April was won by Christine Hopkins. Conservative hold.
  • Taunton Deane: The byelection in Wiveliscombe and West Deane ward on 5 April was won by Dave Mansell of the Green Party; he takes a seat previously held by an Independent councillor.

Changes of allegiance

  • Bradford: Michael Stelling, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Bolton and Undercliffe ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Calderdale: Mike Payne, who was elected for the Conservatives in Sowerby Bridge ward, has had his party membership suspended as a questionable Twitter post from five years ago has come to light.
  • Canterbury: Both councillors elected for the UK Independence Party, David Hirst (Greenhill ward) and Geoff Wimble (West Bay ward), have left the party to sit as Independent councillors.
  • East Northamptonshire: Marika Hillson, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Irthlingborough Waterloo ward, has joined the Labour Party.
  • Kingston upon Hull: Steven Bayes, who was elected for the Labour Party in Orchard Park and Greenwood ward, has left the party following a criminal conviction.
  • Scarborough: Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff, who was elected for the Conservatives in Hertford ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Stockport: Laura Booth, who was elected in Offerton ward for the Liberal Democrats, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Swale: The eight-member UK Independence Party group has reorganised as the Swale Group. Some of its members remain members of UKIP nationally while others have left the party, but the group remains unified on the council.

New vacancies

  • Bristol: Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Clare Campion-Smith, due to ill health. Term ends 2020.
  • Horsham: Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Clarke. Term ends 2019.

Date for byelection

  • Waverley: The byelection due in Farnham Castle ward will be held on 24 May.
