The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Barnsley: The byelection in Kingstone ward on 28 September was won by Joanne Murray. Labour hold.
  • Breckland: The byelection in Thetford Priory ward on 28 September was won by Mike Brindle. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Durham: The byelection in Trimdon and Thornley division on 28 September was won by Jude Grant. Labour hold.
  • East Staffordshire: The byelection in Stretton ward on 28 September was won by Dale Spedding. Conservative hold.
  • Harlow: The byelection in Toddbrook ward on 28 September was won by Tony Edwards. Labour hold.
  • Harrogate: The byelection in Washburn ward on 28 September was won by Victoria Oldham. Conservative hold.
  • Highland: The byelection in Tain and Easter Ross ward on 28 September was won by Alasdair Rhind. He stood as an Independent and takes a seat previously held by the Liberal Democrats.
  • Lancaster: The byelection in Halton with Aughton ward on 28 September was won by Kevin Frea by two votes. He wins for Labour a seat previously held by an Independent.
  • Northampton: The byelection in Eastfield ward on 28 September was won by Paul Joyce. Labour hold.
  • Northampton: The byelection in Nene Valley ward on 28 September was won by Luke Graystone. Conservative hold.
  • St Edmundsbury: The byelection in Chedburgh ward on 28 September was won by Michael Chester. Conservative hold.
  • St Edmundsbury: The byelection in Hundon ward on 28 September was won by Alison Evans. Conservative hold.
  • South Oxfordshire: On 22 September, Caroline Newton was returned unopposed as councillor for Haseley Brook ward. She succeeds Steve Harrod, who resigned to concentrate on his role as an Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Cheshire East: Michael Jones, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Bunbury ward, has left the party group after accusing members of making personal attacks on him and his previous leadership of the council. He remains a member of the Conservative Party and will sit as an Independent Conservative.
  • Peterborough: Darren Fower, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Gunthorpe ward but left the party last week, has now been accepted into the Labour Party.
  • Solihull: Jeff Potts, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Knowle ward, has been suspended from his group over his activity on Twitter.

New vacancies

  • Darlington: Mowden ward, after the resignation of veteran Labour councillor Bill Stenson. Term ends 2019.
  • Dover: St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe ward, after the impending resignation of outgoing council leader Paul Watkins who is a Conservative. Term ends 2019.
  • Fareham: Stubbington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Wood, who was elected as a UK Independence Party candidate. Term ends May next year.
  • Hartlepool: Victoria ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Trisha Lawton. Term ends 2019.
  • Lancashire: Wyre Rural Central division, after the death of Conservative councillor Vivien Taylor. Term ends 2021.
  • Perth and Kinross: Perth City South ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Michael Jamieson. Term ends 2022.
  • Waveney: Kirkley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Steve Logan. Term ends 2019.
  • Waveney: St Margarets ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Louisa Harris-Logan. Term ends 2019.
  • Wyre: Preesall ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Vivien Taylor. Term ends 2019.

  • Buckinghamshire: The byelection due in Beaconsfield division will be held on 2 November.
  • Camden: The byelection due in Gospel Oak ward will be held on 9 November.
  • Copeland: The byelection due in Egremont South ward will be held on 2 November.
  • Fareham: The byelection due in Stubbington ward will be held on 9 November.
  • Sefton: The byelection due in Dukes ward will be held on 2 November.
  • South Bucks: The byelection due in Beaconsfield North ward will be held on 2 November.

Other updates

  • Great Yarmouth: A referendum on 28 September produced a large majority in favour of moving to full council elections rather than electing by thirds. Although non-binding, it is likely the council will now make this change.
