The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Middlesbrough: The byelection in Coulby Newham ward on 13 April was won by Jacob Young. Conservative gain from Labour.
Bath and North East Somerset: The byelection in Piddle Valley ward on 13 April was won by Brian Haynes. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
Forest of Dean: Four councillors originally elected for the Labour Party have formed the Forest of Dean Independent Labour group, in opposition to the large number of Momentum supporters within the local party. They include Tim Gwilliam (Berry Hill ward) whose move was mentioned in last week’s update, along with Roger James (Coleford East ward), Paul Hiett (Bream ward) and Bill Osborne (Lydney East ward).
Caerphilly: Aberbargoed division, after the death of council leader Keith Reynolds (who was a Labour councillor). As his term was due to end next month, there will be no byelection.
Copeland: Newtown ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Ray Cole. Term ends 2019.
Torridge: Hartland and Bradworthy ward, after the death of UK Independence Party councillor Alan Whittle. Term ends 2019.
Welwyn Hatfield: Hatfield Villages ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Howard Morgan. Term ends 2018.
Other update
Burnley: Alongside the county council elections on 4 May, there is a referendum on whether to change to a directly elected Mayor.
