The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Changes of allegiance
- Cheshire East: Sam Gardner, who was elected for the Conservatives in Macclesfield Tytherington ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Aberdeenshire: Peterhead South and Cruden ward, following the impending resignation of Aligned Independent councillor Tom Malone which will take effect at the end of January. As his term was due to end in May there will be no byelection.
- Cardiff: Cyncoed division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Margaret Jones who is moving to New Zealand. With her term due to end in May, she will not be replaced in a byelection.
- Corby: Kingswood and Hazel Leys ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Kenneth Carratt who failed to attend any meeting of the council in six months. Carratt was elected for the Labour Party. Term ends 2019.
- Cotswold: Fairford North ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Abagail Beccle. Term ends 2019.
- Derby: Derwent ward, after the death of UK Independence Party councillor Bill Wright. Term ends 2018.
- Dudley: St Thomas’s ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Glenis Simms. Term ends 2019.
- North Yorkshire: Richmondshire North division, after the death of veteran Conservative county councillor Michael Heseltine. As the term would have ended in May there will be no byelection.
- Oldham: Failsworth East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jim McMahon, former council leader and now Member of Parliament for Oldham West and Royton. Term ends 2019.
Dates for byelections
- Corby: The byelection due in Kingswood and Hazel Leys ward will be held on 9 February.
- Cotswold: The byelection due in Fairford North ward will be held on 9 February.
- Rotherham: The byelection due in Brinsworth and Catcliffe ward will be held on 2 February.
- Rotherham: The byelection due in Dinnington ward will be held on 2 February.
- Tendring: The byelection due in Great and Little Oakley ward will be held on 9 February.
