The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Dover: The byelection in Aylesham ward on 22 December was won by Gordon Cowan. Labour hold.
  • Eastleigh: The byelection in Hedge End Wildern ward on 22 December was won by Ian Corben. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Waverley: The byelection in Cranleigh West ward on 21 December was won by Liz Townsend. Conservative hold.

New vacancies

  • Aylesbury Vale: Elmhurst ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Andy Hetherington. Term ends 2019.
  • Christchurch: Mudeford and Friars Cliff ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Andy Barfield who had come under criticism for failing to pay his council tax. Term ends 2019.
  • Denbighshire: Denbigh Lower division, after the death of Independent councillor Raymond Bartley. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • East Hertfordshire: Hertford Castle ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Kevin Brush. Term ends 2019.
  • Fylde: St John’s ward, after the disqualification of Fylde Ratepayers’ councillor Mark Bamforth who failed to attend a meeting of the council for six months. The disqualification is controversial as Bamforth suffers from agoraphobia, making it difficult for him to attend meetings. Term ends 2019.
  • Herefordshire: Leominster South ward, after the death of Independent councillor Peter McCaull. Term ends 2019.
  • Lincolnshire: Mablethorpe division, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Anne Reynolds for health reasons. No byelection will be held as her term was due to end in May.
  • Tendring: Great and Little Oakley ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Tom Howard. Term ends 2019.
  • Uttlesford: Elsenham and Henham ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rory Gleeson. Term ends 2019.

Date for byelection

  • Fylde: The byelection due in St John’s ward will be held on 9 February 2017.
