Results
- Blackpool: The byelection in Tyldesley ward on 29 September was won by David Collett who takes the seat previously held by his father Eddie Collett. Labour hold.
- Blaenau Gwent: The byelection in Brynmawr division on 29 September was won by Wayne Hodgins. Independent hold.
- Cotswold: The byelection in Stow ward on 29 September was won by Dylis Neill. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Dacorum: The byelection in Adeyfield West ward on 29 September was won by Adrian England. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Derby: The byelection in Allestree ward on 29 September was won by Ged Potter. Conservative hold.
- North Norfolk: The byelection in Arley and Whitacre ward on 29 September was won by Karen Ward. Liberal Democrat hold.
- Wellingborough: The byelection in Finedon ward on 29 September was won by Barbara Bailey, widow of the late councillor John Bailey. Conservative hold.
- West Lindsey: The byelection in Cherry Willingham ward on 29 September was won by Maureen Palmer. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Barrow-in-Furness: Sean Harkin, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dalton North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent, due to his opposition to the present party leadership.
- Caerphilly: Two councillors elected from Blackwood division have left the Labour Party to sit as Independent councillors. They are Allan Rees and Nigel Dix.
- Kettering: Michael Brown, who was elected for the Conservatives in Brambleside ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Leicestershire: Leon Spence, who was elected for the Labour Party in Whitwick division, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor following the re-election of Jeremy Corbyn.
- Maidstone: Gordon Newton, who was elected as an Independent in Downswood and Otham ward, has joined the UK Independence Party.
- Pembrokeshire: Pat Davies, who was elected for the Labour Party in Fishguard North West division, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated councillor. She disagrees with decisions of the Labour group on school reorganisation.
- Portsmouth: John Ferrett, who was elected for the Labour Party in Paulsgrove ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned Independent following Jeremy Corbyn’s re-election as leader.
- Powys: Myfanwy Alexander (Llanfair Caereinion division) has left the Independent group over cuts to her local community. She will now be a non-aligned councillor.
- Shepway: Claire Jeffrey, who was elected for the Labour Party in East Folkestone ward, has joined the Conservative Party following Jeremy Corbyn’s victory in the Labour leadership election.
New vacancies
- Bath and North East Somerset: Abbey ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Jonathan Carr who is moving out of the city. Term ends 2019.
- Carlisle: Castle ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Barrie Osgood who was convicted of benefit fraud. Term ends 2019.
- North Hertfordshire: Hitchin Oughton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Simon Watson. Term ends 2020.
- Weymouth and Portland: Wey Valley ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Cory Russell. Term ends 2018.

- Bath and North East Somerset: The byelection due in Abbey ward will be held on 17 November.
- Cardiff: The byelection due in Grangetown division will be held on 3 November.
- Eastleigh: The byelection due in Fair Oak and Horton Heath ward will be held on 3 November.
- Gloucester: The byelection due in Longlevens ward will be held on 3 November.
- Horsham: The byelection due in Southwater ward will be held on 10 November.
- Medway: The byelection due in Rainham Central ward will be held on 3 November.
- North Hertfordshire: The byelection due in Hitchin Oughton ward will be held on 10 November.
- Reigate and Banstead: The byelection due in Kingswood with Burgh Heath ward will be held on 3 November.
- Weymouth and Portland: The byelection due in Wey Valley ward will be held on 20 October.
