Results
- Bournemouth: The byelection in Kinson North ward on 1 September was won by John Perkins. Conservative hold.
- Cornwall: The byelection in Four Lanes division on 1 September was won by Nathan Billings. Liberal Democrat gain from the UK Independence Party.
- Dorset: The byelection in Ferndown division on 1 September was won by Steven Lugg. Conservative hold.
- East Dorset: The byelection in Parley ward on 1 September was won by Andrew Parry. Conservative hold.
- Stockton-on-Tees: The byelection in Grangefield on 1 September was won by Stephen Richardson. Conservative gain from Labour.
Change of allegiance
- Argyll and Bute: Robert Macintyre, an Independent councillor for Isle of Bute ward (although he was originally elected for the Scottish National Party), has left the council administration and gone into opposition.
New vacancies
- Aberdeenshire: Banff and District ward, after the death of Scottish National Party councillor Ian Gray. Term ends May next year.
- Aberdeenshire: Inverurie and District ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Martin Kitts-Hayes, until recently co-leader of the council, arising from questions over his expenses while attending a conference. He was elected as a Liberal Democrat. Term ends May next year.
- Conwy: Abergele Pensarn division, after the resignation of Labour councillor Rick Stubbs. Term ends May next year.
- Eastleigh: Fair Oak and Horton Heath ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Roger Smith. Term ends 2019.
- Hartlepool: Headland and Harbour ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Peter Jackson. Term ends 2018.
- North Kesteven: Cliff Villages ward, after the resignation (due to work commitments) of Lincolnshire Independents councillor Laura Conway. Term ends 2019.
- Reigate and Banstead: Kingswood with Burgh Heath ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Joan Spiers, who was formerly council leader and Mayor. Term ends 2018.
- Wandsworth: Queenstown ward, after the death of Labour councillor Sally-Ann Ephson. Term ends 2018.
