The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Changes of allegiance
- Sutton: Graham Whitham, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cheam ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- South Kesteven: Market and West Deeping ward, after the death of Independent councillor and chairman of the council Reg Howard. As his term was due to end on 7 May, there will be no byelection.
- Tower Hamlets: Mayor of Tower Hamlets, after Lutfur Rahman was reported personally guilty and guilty by his agents of corrupt and illegal practices during the 2014 election. Term ends 2018.
- Tower Hamlets: Stepney Green ward, after the disqualification of Tower Hamlets First councillor Alibor Choudhury who was reported guilty of corrupt and illegal practices in the judgment of the election court on the Mayoral election. Term ends 2018.
Dates for byelections
- Tower Hamlets: The byelection for Mayor of Tower Hamlets will be held on 11 June.
- Tower Hamlets: The byelection in Stepney Green ward will be held on 11 June.
Postponed polls
- Kettering: The election due on 7 May in Rothwell ward has been postponed after the death of Alan Pote who had been nominated as the UK Independence Party candidate.
- South Kesteven: The election due on 7 May in Market and West Deeping ward has been postponed to 25 June after the death of Reg Howard who had been nominated as an Independent candidate.
