The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Changes of allegiance
- Newcastle-under-Lyme: Two councillors who were elected for the Labour Party have left the party following their deselections for the 2015 election. They are Paul Waring (Newchapel ward) and Gill Burnett (Ravenscliffe ward). As a result the Labour Party has lost its overall majority on the council.
New vacancies
- Hertsmere: Aldenham West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Dan Griffin. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
- Norfolk: Loddon division, after the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Adrian Gunson. Term ends 2017.
- Richmondshire: Catterick ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Rob Johnson. As his term was due to end in May there will be no byelection for a replacement.
- Tandridge: Whyteleafe ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Tom Dempsey who has not attended any meetings of the council for six months. Term ends 2016.
- Wandsworth: Earlsfield ward, after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Adrian Knowles. Term ends 2018.
Date for byelection
- Gwynedd: The byelection due in Cadnant division will take place on 2 April.
- Tandridge: The byelection due in Whyteleafe ward will be held on Wednesday 1 April.
Other updates
- Rotherham: Following the Secretary of State’s decision to appoint commissioners to take control of the council, the five commissioners were this week appointed and have taken control of the council.
