The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Fife: The byelection in Kirkcaldy East ward on 22 January was won by Marie Penman. Scottish National Party hold.
- Wealden: The byelection in Crowborough West ward on 22 January was won by Jeannette Towey. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Basildon: Daniel Munyanbu, who was elected for the Labour Party in Vange ward but became an Independent Labour councillor in October 2014, has now joined the Independence Group set up by former UKIP councillor Kerry Smith.
- Corby: Stan Heggs, who was elected for the Conservatives in Stanion and Corby Village ward, has been expelled from the Conservative group after chairing a meeting which the group considered was a conflict of interest.
- Enfield: Nesimi Erbil, who was elected for the Labour Party in Lower Edmonton ward, has had the Labour whip suspended after previous convictions were revealed. He is sitting as an Independent alongside Haydar Ulus (Haselbury ward), who has also been suspended from the Labour group and is to stand trial for assault.
- Rochford: Two Conservative councillors, who have both been deselected, left the party to sit as Independents. They are Phil Capon (Hawkwell South ward, and chairman of the Development committee) and Tracy Capon (Ashingdon and Canewdon ward).
- South Tyneside: Ian Harkus, who was elected for the Labour Party in Hebburn North ward, has left it to stand for re-election as an Independent councillor after he was deselected.
- Southend-on-Sea: Floyd Waterworth, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Blenheim Park ward, has been expelled from the party group over an internal dispute.
- West Lancashire: Adrian Owens, who was elected for the Conservatives in Derby ward, has left the party and set up his own group called Our West Lancashire. His move may imperil the Conservative leadership of the council, who have previously retained control on the Mayor’s casting vote.
New vacancies
- Croydon: Selhurst ward, after the death of long-serving Labour councillor Gerry Ryan. Term ends 2018.
- Fife: Glenrothes West and Kinglassie ward, after the death of Labour councillor Betty Campbell. Term ends 2017.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme: Clayton ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Ann Heames. Term ends 2016.
