The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Cornwall: The byelection in Mevagissey division on 6 November was won by James Mustoe. Conservative gain from Labour.
- Rugby: The byelection in Bilton ward on 6 November was won by Julie A’Barrow. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Canterbury: Two sitting councillors who have not been reselected by the Labour Party have left the party to set up an Independent group. They are former group leader John Wratten and Phil Cartwright, both of whom represent Harbour ward.
- Castle Point: Stephen Cole, who was elected in Canvey Island Winter Gardens ward as a candidate of the Canvey Island Independent Party, has joined the Conservatives. His move means that the Conservative administration on the council has now got an overall majority.
- Stockport: Brian Hendley, who was elected in Cale Green and Davenport ward for the Labour Party, has left the party following his deselection and will be standing for re-election as an Independent candidate.
New vacancies
- Derbyshire: Brimington division, after the death of Labour councillor Walter Burrows. Term ends 2017.
- Fife: Kirkcaldy East ward, after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Arthur Morrison, who has moved to Austria. Term ends 2017.
- Herefordshire: Mortimer ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Olwyn Barnett who was Chairman of the Council. Term ends May next year.
- South Ribble: Bamber Bridge West ward, after the death of Labour councillor Tom Hanson. Term ends May next year.
- Stroud: Nailsworth ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Paul Carter. Term ends May next year.
Dates for byelections
- Adur: The byelection due in St Mary’s ward will be held on Friday 5 December.
- Halton: The byelection due in Kingsway ward will take place on 11 December.
- Lincolnshire: The byelection due in Stamford North division will be held on 11 December.
- Windsor and Maidenhead: The byelection due in Cox Green ward will be held on 11 December.
