The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East of England

East Midlands

London

  • Brent borough council: Vacancy in Dudden Hill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues, who has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011. Dhiraj Kataria, who was elected for the Labour Party in Welsh Harp ward, but had the whip withdrawn last year, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
  • Waltham Forest borough council: Vacancy in Higham Hill ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Geoff Hammond. As the vacancy occurred within six months of the end of the term, no byelection will be held.

North East

  • No updates this week.

North West

South East

South West

  • Wiltshire council: Vacancy in Ethandune division after the death of Conservative councillor Linda Conley, who was portfolio holder for waste. Term ends 2017.

West Midlands

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Richmondshire district council: Byelection on 12 December in Hornby Castle ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lin Clarkson, who was elected in a byelection in May 2012. Term ends 2015.
  • Sheffield city council: Vacancy in Arbourthorne ward after the death of Labour councillor John Robson. Term ends 2015.

Wales

  • Cardiff city council: At byelections on 5 December, Darren Williams was elected councillor for Riverside division and Edward Stubbs was elected councillor for Splott division. Both held their seats for the Labour Party.
  • Flintshire county council: Vacancy in Mostyn division after the disqualification of Independent councillor Patrick Heesom. The adjudication panel initially disqualified Heesom in July; the order was stayed by the High Court when Heesom appealed but the stay has since been lifted. Term ends 2017.
  • Powys county council: A split in the Shire Independent group has led to a reconstruction of the cabinet. A new Independent group has been formed under the leadership of Graham Brown (Llandrinio division); the new group is in opposition, and so its three members who were in the cabinet have resigned. The administration now consists of the Shire Independent Group and the Powys Independent Alliance (24 members).
  • Torfaen county borough council: Byelection on 19 December in Croesyceiliog North division after the death of Labour councillor Cynthia Beynon. Term ends 2017.
