The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East of England

 

East Midlands

  • Charnwood borough council: There are two byelections on 24 October, in Loughborough Hastings ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Litu Choudhury, and in Shepshed West ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Bernard Burr. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Corby borough council: Vacancy in Kingswood ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Maureen Forshaw due to ill health. Term ends 2015.
  • East Lindsey district council: Byelection on 3 October in Chapel St Leonards ward after the resignation of East Lindsey Independent Group councillor Philip Leivers. Term ends 2015.
  • Harborough district council: Vacancy in Bosworth ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Brian Smith. Term ends 2015.

 

London

  • Brent borough council: Impending vacancy in Dudden Hill ward where Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues has said he is intending to resign in November (within six months of a full council election). He has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011.
  • Harrow borough council: Impending vacancy in Harrow on the Hill ward due to the resignation of Labour councillor Ann Gate, to take effect on 1 October. She is moving to Gloucestershire. Term ends May next year.

South East

  • Aylesbury Vale district council: Byelection on 3 October in Oakfield ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Steve Patrick, who was town Mayor of Aylesbury. Term ends 2015.
  • Bracknell Forest council: Vacancy in Winkfield and Cranbourne ward after the death of Conservative councillor Mary Ballin, who was executive member for planning and transport. Term ends 2015. Meanwhile two councillors elected for the Conservative Party have joined the UK Independence Party; they are Shelagh Pile (Harmans Water ward) and Michael Sargeant (Bulbrook ward).
  • Cherwell district council: Mark Cherry was elected councillor for Banbury Ruscote ward on 26 September, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
  • Chichester district council: Byelection on 17 October in Westbourne ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maureen Elliott. Term ends 2015.
  • Havant borough council: Byelection on 24 October in Waterloo ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Hunt due to ill health. Term ends 2016.
  • Mole Valley district council: Roger Hurst was elected councillor for Mickleham, Westhumble and Pixham ward on 26 September. He held the seat for the Liberal Democrats.
  • Sevenoaks district council: Steve Lindsay was elected councillor for Crockenhill and Well Hill ward on 26 September. He wins for the UK Independence Party a seat which was won by Colin Dibsdall as an Independent in 2011, and then by his widow Jenny Dibsdall for Labour in a March 2012 byelection.
  • Spelthorne borough council: Vacancy in Riverside and Laleham ward after the death of the Mayor of Spelthorne, Isobel Napper, who was a Conservative councillor. Term ends 2015. The byelection is expected to be called for 7 November.
  • West Oxfordshire district council: Byelection on 7 November in Chipping Norton ward after the death of Labour councillor Rob Evans. Term ends 2016.
  • West Sussex county council: Philip Circus was elected county councillor for Storrington division on 26 September, holding the seat for the Conservative Party. There is another byelection on 24 October in Warnham and Rusper division after the death of Conservative councillor Mick Hodgson. Term ends 2017.

 

South West

  • Forest of Dean district council: At byelections on 26 September, Tanya Palmer of the Labour Party was elected councillor for Coleford East ward and Clayton Williams of the Conservative Party was elected councillor for Redmarley ward. Each retained seats previously held by their parties.
  • Mid Devon district council: Cathryn Heal was elected councillor for Way ward on 26 September, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
  • Taunton Deane district council: Byelection on 3 October in Taunton Halcon ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor and former Mayor, Steve Brooks. Term ends 2015.
  • Teignbridge district council: Byelection on 24 October in Bovey ward after the resignation of veteran councillor Fernley Holmes, who was last elected as a Conservative but was sitting as an Independent councillor. Term ends 2015.

 

West Midlands

 

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Barnsley borough council: Robert Frost was elected councillor for Wombwell ward on 26 September, holding the seat for the Labour Party. There is another byelection on 10 October in Royston ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Graham Kyte. Term ends 2016.
  • North Yorkshire county council: Byelection on 10 October in Selby South division after the death of Conservative county councillor Margaret Hulme. Term ends 2017.

Scotland

  • Fife council: Byelection on 24 October in Dunfermline South ward after the death of Labour councillor Mike Rumney. Term ends 2017.
  • Glasgow city council: Byelection on 10 October in Govan ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor and former group leader Alison Hunter. Term ends 2017.
  • Highland council: Vacancy in Landward Caithness ward after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Alex MacLeod, who has been charged with incurring excessive expenses at his election. Term ends 2017.
  • Scottish Borders council: Byelection on 10 October in Tweeddale West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nathaniel Buckingham. Term ends 2017.
  • South Lanarkshire council: Byelection on 24 October in Hamilton South ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor Bobby Lawson. Term ends 2017.
