The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East of England

  • Basildon borough council: Byelection on 27 June in Billericay East after the death of Conservative councillor and former council leader Tony Archer. Term ends 2014.
  • Braintree district council: Byelection on 25 July in Braintree East ward after the death of Labour councillor Eric Lynch, who gained his seat from the Conservatives in a March 2012 byelection. Term ends 2015.
  • Broadland district council: Byelection on 4 July in Aylsham ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor and former deputy leader Jo Cottingham. Term ends 2015.
  • Norfolk county council: Byelection on 1 August in Thetford West division after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Peter Georgiou, who was cautioned for shoplifting in 2012. Term ends 2017.
  • Uttlesford district council: Byelection on 25 July in Felsted ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor David Crome, who has not attended any meetings of the council in six months. Term ends 2015.
  • Waveney district council: Vacancy in Oulton ward after the death of Labour councillor Mike Ives-Keeler. Term ends 2015. His death has given the Conservative administration an overall majority.

  • North Tyneside borough council: Byelection on 4 July in Riverside ward after the disqualification of Labour councillor Norma Redfearn, now Mayor of North Tyneside. Term ends 2015.
  • Redcar and Cleveland council: Vacancy in Skelton ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Dave McLuckie, who was convicted of perverting the course of justice. Term ends 2015.
  • South Tyneside borough council: There are two byelections on 27 June. Cleadon and East Boldon ward will elect a new councillor after the death of UK Independence Party councillor David Potts, who was elected as a Conservative. Primrose ward will elect a successor to Labour councillor Emma Lewell-Buck, who resigned on election as Member of Parliament for South Shields. Both terms end in 2014.

  • North Somerset council: Byelection on 25 July in Weston-super-Mare North Worle ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Judd. Term ends 2015.
  • Plymouth city council: Byelection on 27 June in Southway ward after the disqualication of Conservative councillor Tom Browne, who failed to attend any meetings of the council in six months. Term ends 2014.
  • Swindon council: Vacancy in Haydon Wick ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Rex Barnett. Term ends 2016. The Conservatives would lose their overall majority if they did not hold the seat.

 

West Midlands

  • Dudley borough council: Vacancy in Coseley East ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor George Davies. Term ends 2016.
  • Newcastle-under-Lyme borough council: Byelection on 4 July in Silverdale and Parksite ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Thomas Lawton. Term ends 2015. Meanwhile James Bannister, who was elected for the Conservatives in May Bank ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Walsall borough council: Vacancy in Aldridge Central and South ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Tom Ansell. Term ends 2016.
  • Worcestershire county council: Byelection on 27 June in Stourport division after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Eric Kitson, following publicity over his comments on facebook. There is a vacancy in St Mary’s division following the death of recently-elected UK Independence Party councillor Tony Baker. Both terms end in 2017.

  • Edinburgh city council: Keith Robson was elected councillor for Liberton and Gilmerton ward on 20 June. He gains for the Labour Party a seat previously held by the Scottish National Party.
  • Fife council: John Wincott was elected councillor for Glenrothes North, Leslie and Markinch ward on 20 June, holding the seat for the Labour Party.
