The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

North East

  • Newcastle-upon-Tyne city council: Byelection on 6 June in Walkergate ward, following the resignation of Labour councillor Tania Armstrong. Term ends 2016.
  • South Tyneside borough council: There are two byelections on 27 June. Cleadon and East Boldon ward will elect a new councillor after the death of UK Independence Party councillor David Potts, who was elected as a Conservative. Primrose ward will elect a successor to Labour councillor Emma Lewell-Buck, who resigned on election as Member of Parliament for South Shields. Both terms end in 2014.

 

North West

  • Allerdale borough council: Byelection on 20 June in Boltons ward after the death of Independent councillor and former Mayor Joe Mumberson. Term ends 2015. His loss means that Labour has an overall majority on the council.
  • Carlisle city council: Vacancy in Yewdale ward after the death of the Leader of the Council, Professor Joe Hendry, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2015.
  • St Helens borough council: Vacancy in Billinge and Seneley Green ward after the resignation of Labour councillor Alison Bacon. Term ends 2016.
  • Salford city council: Byelection on 20 June in Weaste and Seedley ward after the death of Labour councillor Jan Rochford. Term ends 2015.

  • Plymouth city council: Byelection on 27 June in Southway ward after the disqualication of Conservative councillor Tom Browne, who failed to attend any meetings of the council in six months. Term ends 2014.

  • Edinburgh city council: Byelection on 20 June in Liberton and Gilmerton ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor Tom Buchanan. Term ends 2017.
  • Fife council: Byelection on 20 June in Glenrothes North, Leslie and Markinch ward after the death of Labour councillor Bill Kay. Term ends 2017.
