Norfolk county council: Byelection on 27 September in Clenchwarton and King’s Lynn South division after the death of Conservative county councillor David Harwood. Term ends 2013.
North Hertfordshire district council: There are two vacancies. Hitchwood, Offa and Hoo ward has a vacancy after the death of Conservative councillor David Miller; the term ends in 2014. Letchworth South East ward has a vacancy after the resignation of Conservative councillor Richard Harman; the term there ends in 2015.
Basingstoke and Deane borough council: Stephen West, who was elected as a Conservative in Tadley Central ward, has left the party and joined the UK Independence Party; he is to be the UKIP candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner in Hampshire and Isle of Wight. His move has removed the Conservatives’ overall majority, and as the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane this year is Independent councillor Martin Biermann, it may endanger Conservative control of the council.
Runnymede borough council: There are two byelections on 27 September. They are in Chertsey Meads ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Diana Cotty, and New Haw ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Chris Knight. The terms end in 2016 (Chertsey Meads) and 2014 (New Haw).
Cornwall council: Walter Sanger was elected councillor for St Keverne and Meneage division on 20 September. He takes a seat previously held by an Independent; although Sanger previously sat as an Independent on Kerrier district council, he was an official Conservative candidate in the byelection. There is a vacancy in Gwinear-Gwithian and St Erth division, after the death of Conservative councillor Ray Tovey. Term ends next May.
Poole council: Vacancy in Branksome East ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Stephen Rollo-Smith due to ill health. Term ends 2015. The byelection is likely to be held on 15 November.
