The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Blaby district council: Vacancy in Pastures ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ted Webster-Williams who is moving out of the district. Term ends 2015.
  • Lincolnshire county council: Byelection on 2 August in Lincoln East division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sara Cliff, who was under criticism for her poor attendance record since moving to Cambridgeshire. There is also a vacancy in Nettleham and Saxilby division after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Both terms end in 2013.
  • Nottinghamshire county council: Vacancy in Rufford division after the death of Independent county councillor Les Ward. Term ends 2013.
  • South Holland district council: There are two byelections on 2 August. The byelection in Fleet ward is caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Shaun Keeble; the byelection in Long Sutton ward arises after the death of veteran Independent councillor Dennis Tennant. Both terms end in 2015.
  • West Lindsey district council: Vacancy in Nettleham ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Term ends 2015.

East of England

  • Breckland district council: Karen Pettitt was elected councillor for Queen’s ward on 19 July, holding the seat for the Conservatives by 35 votes. There are another two byelections on 26 July. The first is in Harling and Heathlands ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lady Kay Fisher, whose husband has a financial link with the Crown Estate who are putting forward development plans in the district. The second is in Mid Forest ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bernard English due to ill health. Both terms end in 2015.
  • Central Bedfordshire council: Byelection on 16 August in Stotfold and Langford ward after the death of Conservative councillor Jon Clarke. Term ends 2015.
  • Southend-on-Sea council: Ric Morgan, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Prittlewell ward, has left the party to join the Liberal Party; he will sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Tendring district council: Byelection on 16 August in St Bartholomews ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Chris Cowlin, who was sponsored by the Holland Residents’ Association. He was elected only in March but has found that he cannot fulfil all the duties of a councillor. Term ends 2015.

London

  • Corporation of London: Wardmote on 25 July and byelection on 26 July in Farringdon Within ward after the resignation of non-party councillor Robert Hughes-Penney. Term ends March 2013.

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Calderdale borough council: James Baker was elected councillor for Warley ward on 19 July. He is a member of the Liberal Democrats and follows another member of that party. There is an impending vacancy in Calder ward as another Liberal Democrat councillor, Nader Fekri, is moving to Turkey to join his wife; his term is due to end in 2014.
