The latest information about local electoral matters is as follows:
- Blaby district council: Vacancy in Pastures ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ted Webster-Williams who is moving out of the district. Term ends 2015.
- Lincolnshire county council: Byelection on 2 August in Lincoln East division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sara Cliff, who was under criticism for her poor attendance record since moving to Cambridgeshire. There is also a vacancy in Nettleham and Saxilby division after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Both terms end in 2013.
- Nottinghamshire county council: Vacancy in Rufford division after the death of Independent county councillor Les Ward. Term ends 2013.
- South Holland district council: There are two byelections on 2 August. The byelection in Fleet ward is caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Shaun Keeble; the byelection in Long Sutton ward arises after the death of veteran Independent councillor Dennis Tennant. Both terms end in 2015.
- West Lindsey district council: Vacancy in Nettleham ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Term ends 2015.
East of England
- Breckland district council: Karen Pettitt was elected councillor for Queen’s ward on 19 July, holding the seat for the Conservatives by 35 votes. There are another two byelections on 26 July. The first is in Harling and Heathlands ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lady Kay Fisher, whose husband has a financial link with the Crown Estate who are putting forward development plans in the district. The second is in Mid Forest ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bernard English due to ill health. Both terms end in 2015.
- Central Bedfordshire council: Byelection on 16 August in Stotfold and Langford ward after the death of Conservative councillor Jon Clarke. Term ends 2015.
- Southend-on-Sea council: Ric Morgan, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Prittlewell ward, has left the party to join the Liberal Party; he will sit as an Independent councillor.
- Tendring district council: Byelection on 16 August in St Bartholomews ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Chris Cowlin, who was sponsored by the Holland Residents’ Association. He was elected only in March but has found that he cannot fulfil all the duties of a councillor. Term ends 2015.
- Corporation of London: Wardmote on 25 July and byelection on 26 July in Farringdon Within ward after the resignation of non-party councillor Robert Hughes-Penney. Term ends March 2013.

- Burnley borough council: Vacancy in Trinity ward after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Tony Lambert. Term ends 2016.
- Canterbury city council: Vacancy in Blean Forest ward after the death of Conservative councillor Hazel McCabe, the longest-serving member of the council. Term ends 2015.
- Dartford borough council: Vacancy in Castle ward after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Sheila East. Term ends 2015.
- New Forest district council: Sophie Beeton was elected councillor for Milford ward on 19 July, holding the seat for the Conservatives.
- Rother district council: Two councillors have recently left the Conservative group. They are Deirdre Williams (Bexhill Sackville ward), who has joined the Association of Independents group, and Paul Lendon (Bexhill St Stephens ward) who is to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
- Runnymede borough council: Vacancy in Chertsey Meads ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Diana Cotty. Term ends 2016.
- Wealden district council: Byelection on 2 August in Polegate North ward after the death of veteran Liberal Democrat councillor Roy Martin. Term ends 2015.
- Woking borough council: The election result from May in Maybury and Shearwater ward has been challenged in an election petition. Labour candidate Mohammad Ali, who was defeated by 16 votes by Mohammed Bashir (Liberal Democrat), alleges various forms of electoral fraud.
- Cornwall council: Vacancy in St Keverne and Meneage division after the death of Independent councillor Pam Lyne. Term ends 2013.
- Plymouth city council: Jill Dolan, who was elected for the Conservatives in Stoke ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Herefordshire council: Vacancy in St Nicholas ward after the death of Julie Woodward, a member of the It’s Our County group. Term ends 2015.
- Stafford borough council: Chris Baron, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Forebridge ward, has left the party to become an Independent. However on the council the Liberal Democrats sit in a Liberal Democrat/Independent group, so her allegiance has not altered.
- Stoke-on-Trent city council: Byelection on 26 July in Springfields and Trent Vale after the resignation of Labour councillor Sarah Hill, whose leadership challenge was defeated. Term ends 2015.
- Wolverhampton city council: Vacancy in Park ward after the death of Labour councillor Manohar Minhas. Term ends 2014.
- Calderdale borough council: James Baker was elected councillor for Warley ward on 19 July. He is a member of the Liberal Democrats and follows another member of that party. There is an impending vacancy in Calder ward as another Liberal Democrat councillor, Nader Fekri, is moving to Turkey to join his wife; his term is due to end in 2014.
- Bridgend county borough council: Vacancy in Betws division after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Christopher Michaelides. Term ends 2017.
- Caerphilly county borough council: Vacancy in New Tredegar division after the death of Labour councillor Les Rees. Term ends 2017.
- Vale of Glamorgan council: Byelection on 2 August in Buttrills division after the death of former council leader, Mayor and Labour councillor Margaret Alexander. Term ends 2017.
- East Dunbartonshire council: Vacancy in Campsie and Kirkintilloch North ward after the death of Charles Kennedy, a member of the East Dunbartonshire Independent Alliance. Term ends 2017.
