Lincolnshire county council: Byelection on 2 August in Lincoln East division after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sara Cliff, who was under criticism for her poor attendance record since moving to Cambridgeshire. There is also a byelection on 6 September in Nettleham and Saxilby division after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Both terms end in 2013.
South Holland district council: There are two byelections on 2 August. The byelection in Fleet ward is caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Shaun Keeble; the byelection in Long Sutton ward arises after the death of veteran Independent councillor Dennis Tennant. Both terms end in 2015.
West Lindsey district council: Byelection on 6 September in Nettleham ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Sellars. Term ends 2015.
East of England
Breckland district council: Marion Chapman-Allen was elected councillor for Harling and Heathlands ward, and Mike Nairn was elected councillor for Mid Forest ward, in byelections held on 26 July. Both successful candidates were sponsored by the Conservative Party and both won seats previously held by their party.
Tendring district council: Byelection on 16 August in St Bartholomews ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Chris Cowlin, who was sponsored by the Holland Residents’ Association. He was elected only in March but has found that he cannot fulfil all the duties of a councillor. Term ends 2015.
Brent borough council: Dhiraj Kataria, who was elected for the Labour Party in Welsh Harp ward, has been excluded from the Labour group. The decision arises out of a longrunning planning dispute in which Kataria claimed that the former Labour leader had behaved inappropriately; he was found to have sent his complaint to the opposition Liberal Democrat group. Kataria disputes the decision and plans to appeal.
Corporation of London: Mark Clarke was elected common councilman for Farringdon Within ward on 26 July. He stood as a candidate without description and the council has no political groups.
